Ability to close eyes
« on: November 26, 2006, 11:34:12 am »
I do not know if anyone has ever posted about this here or not but I did do a search for "closing eyes" and "close eyes".

I think it could be a good idea for players to have the ability to close their eyes maybe with a command "/eyes close" and then to open them maybe with "/eyes open". This would make it much easier to have a character fall asleep convincingly or just look more relaxed when resting. I do not know whether or not when a person closes their eyes in game if they should be able to see or not for the sole purpose that as it is we can see behind our characters and we obviously don't have eyes in the back of our heads. At least my character doesn't... Thank you very much for reading this.

There actually have already been at least a couple of threads asking for advanced control over facial expressions.

Has anyone ever thought that maybe there can be too much control to a character? From the ideas I hear, I get the idea you kids want to have little electronic marionettes. This ideal is a nice romantic view of the online world becoming an exact replica of the real counterpart, however it's very flawed. Would you ever really use this? I think not. I think that if anything to this extent was made, the user would forget about the obscure ability to blink, wink, seisure, etc. and only return for abuse so that their character looks as if it has epilepsy.

The ideal is revolutionary.

But I don't think Planeshift if the place for that kind of revolution.

Besides, I think real world blinking is much more enjoyable. Hint hint, go get some sleep.

hmm disagree. being able to lay down and close ones eye would make sleeping obvious to anyone. Also blinking is very much a fun thing to do when flirting for example.

not saying everything should be possible but some animations that also involves eyes closing I feel should be a must.

I don't think I was requesting anything too extravagant, just the ability to close your eyes.  :P

I have enough trouble walking in a straight line so I'm sorry but closing your eyes seems a bit unnecessary

i like the idea. as far as seeing partly behind vs should view go blank, i think it depends.. first person you don't see behind, but i don't know if it should always go blank when 'sleeping' -- at this point i would mention it'd be sweet to have some sort of ps flythru as a standard 'dream'-- or maybe turn off views if it served more purpose than to remind you not to move around, like if high rank gms could take control of your character making him or her walk, talk etc in his or her sleep... but without a good reason like that, shutting off views makes it hard for you to decide your character heard a person who was walking nearby or such, so maybe just dim gamma or such...
As far as other people in other threads wanting more facial expression control; they seem like more work- blink is already built in a lot, just not controlled... I know several women get annoyed by the bowing/stretching move they involuntarily do so often, but would like it if they could control it... I think the majority of players would rather have the option of using their characters like puppet type things than to not have the option.--but all that seemed to be requested here was the ability to control blinking & i think i saw someone say winking... roleplaywise, a wink would rock. you can't say you wink & make it actually subtle, you can only say it was subtle. Could use tell, but then there's no way to fail at subtlty.
Also, going more on topic, as blinking was more a reply idea; i afk a lot--telephone, doorbell, bathroom--, & would love to leave my character asleep in a visible way... it would be nice to add auto-replies to tell saying ZZZzzzzzz or such... but even that sounds like more of a task than what malf was suggesting..

I have to admit i would foresee people sleeping all around the city & fields & sewers & deathrealm & on roofs etc, but the same could be said for people going EVERYWHERE with weapons out... and i gotta admit without a laying down animation it would be a tad unrealistic to stand sleeping for all races.. kran maybe, but not yilan...Tho most races can sit now... speaking of races the ones that don't yet have blink animation would need something like one added to have the simple blink option... These things seem to make it more work to work out... so while I still like the idea, after looking at it it seems like it would need a bit more effort than i first imagined..
