Can anyone tell me why the movement rate seems to differ when one enters one of the Archways or canyons that serve as the gateways between map regions? It just seems that these are the only places were movement slows, you do not slow down when climbing up a hill, you do not speed up when running down a hill but you always seem to slow down when entering one of these areas.

Those passages are very small areas, so the 3D rendering engine knows that it has to calculate very few faces, vertices, planes... So when you enter the passage, the movement is suddenly smoother than usual. You may have been used to a lower frame rate outside, and therefore misinterpret it.

Or: You passed a "coordinate changing" portal. Here, the camera needs a little time to point back at your avatar after the world coordinate system changed. It is the worse the more distant the camera is behind your avatar.

I mostly run around in first person mode and it kind of feels like hitting one of those car wash tracks which pulls you along through the machine.
