Sack in a sack, what should I do?
« on: February 13, 2007, 06:36:10 pm »
Let me preface this by saying I'm a newbie, and I did do a search of the forums and didnt' fine the answer to this question.

I bought some sacks from that guy in Hydlaa who sells them because it seemed like a good idea at the time.  So I wonder, "Can I put a sack in a sack?"  It worked, so I carried three empty sacks in my one sack.  No problem.

Problem happened when I put some things into one of the sacks that was inside my first sack.  Now I cannot get anything out.  I've tried taking the stuff out and putting it into my inventory, or into the first sack, but whatever I select just disappears.  When I close and reopen all the sacks it's back again.

If I try taking the sack out of the sack and put it into my inventory it disappears and I get the message that it is too heavy to equip.  Although the weight is only about 30lbs so it really should not be too heavy.

So am I outta luck?  Is there any way to get my stuff back or should I cut my losses, throw away all my sacks, and start again?

Thanks.  Zippy the Wonderbat

If you are at your carrying capacity you cannot move stuff around in your inventory, make sure this is not the case here.

I thought of that carrying capacity thing, but I'm nowhere near my carrying capacity.  I've got about 90 lbs on me and my capacity is about 144 lbs.

And if you found one, it was not mine.  ;-)

You could have gone to a secluded area, taken the sacks out of the sack and dropped it onto the floor, then picked it up again? I dont know, it may have worked.

That was me ;)

I've actually been doing some research on this bug. I've found:

Each sack within a sack takes on the accumulative weight-value individually, meaning you could have over 100 lbs within 10 sacks, each within each other, and the actual weight might only be 20 lbs.

Example:

First sack has 9 lbs of stuff in it = 10 lbs
you put it in the second sack so it = 11 lbs
you put it in the third sack so it = 12 lbs

Fair enough. But now, if you go back and take the second sack out of the third sack, and the first sack out of the second sack, you have 3 sacks (2 empty) with a total of 10 + 11 + 12 = 33 lbs, even though it should only be 12 (9lbs stuff + 3  1lb sacks).

In other words, the weight value for each sack doesn't reset - until you log off or drop the sack on the ground and pick it back up.

Unluckily for me, while trying this bug, I had about 20 sacks all in sequence, with a gold ore in each of them (as I was actually trying to figure out a different bug).

This is how I got all the ores out:

Drop the sack on the ground. Open the context menu and 'examine' it (which opens a container window). Take whatever items are in this sack, and then take the next sack out of this sack, either sticking it into your inventory (if you can hold it) or dropping it on the ground. Continue this process until there's no sacks left within a sack.

Simple, right? :P

Until this is fixed, putting sacks in sacks is not advisable. Unless you just like to hear me say the word 'sack' :P
