could use some help, inexplicable error...
« on: March 17, 2007, 08:58:19 pm »
Well... my graphics card is perfectly fine for the specifications, as is my amount of RAM and such, and yet I keep getting an error.  I just downloaded the game yesterday and have not run the updater (because it says not to) as of yet.  while planeshift is loading, I get an error

crystalspace.canvas.openglwin
no hardware acceleration!

when I go to create a character, the only previews for any race or gender is a basic frame with very little coloring (like, the head is a red square), and there are no backgrounds.  Help meh!

Are the drivers updated to the most recent version? This is definitely a graphics card related problem.

Can you post your card type and driver version please?
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

I recently tried to update my graphics card because of this... twice.  I have the latest version.  My graphics card is a GeForce FX 5500,  specs are...
Bus type: PCI
memory: 256MB DDR
core clock: 270MHz
RAMDACs: dual 350mhz
API support: microsoft directx 9.0 and lower, opengl 1.5 and lower for microsoft windows
connectors: VGA, S-Video Out
vertices/sec.: 67.5 million

I hope that helps a little.

could be that your agp not agp card driver is broken, if thats so you'll need to manualy reinstall it, not via the motherboard driver install i mean really manual

Odd...
newest 93.71 are meant to support GeForce FX 5500.

What about trying a not that new version?

I don't know... maybe this one?

That assuming you're using windows xp or 2000.
Are there any MoonSeekers left?

Come to think of it, I played this a while back once, but got rid of it later, and reinstalled it yesterday... when I used to play it, I had a different, older graphics card in... maybe it just doesn't support the newer one yet or something, I don't know... well, first thing I'm gonna do is wait for the updater to be fixed and update, see if that fixes things... if not... I'll try reinstalling the graphics card.

Don't hold your breath, the updater won't be working untill there is something to up-date...

As for the graphix problem, check your DX version is upto date, and configured correctly best way to do that is...

Click start,
Click Run,
Type dxdiag,
Press the Enter Key
Click on the "Display" tab
Ensure that Both test buttons are able to be clicked on,

If they can't then remove your card drivers using hardware manager, reboot the machine then re-install them.

If they can then run the tests and post the results that appear in the white box at the bottom...
