A lot of people just stand around and chat about things which never happened and they call it roleplaying. So aside from developing some sort of personality disorder and power complex, there's nothing you need to work on in order to fit in with the community once you start your character.
Yes, and there are some people who sit around a table, get a large rulebook, roll some dices and chat about things that never happened and they call it roleplaying.
It is just a way to overcome the limitations of Planeshift as a

game, but some people go to far and RP being "uber-characters" with almost godly powers(Here is and exaggerated example of what is called godmodding: Being a medieval "Rambo" and fighting with two claymores - instead of the modern akimbo machineguns -

, plus taking down pterosaurs with a single longbow shot easily - I know choppers are tougher, but it's still ridiculous

). Luckily I never witnessed a so absurd case like this hypothetical example(Although some people insist of wielding two claymores due to a bug or limitation - I'm sure they're supposed to be two-handed weapons ) , I already saw people making fights almost like if they were those DBZ "Super-Sayajins" and that really spoils roleplaying.
And if you want some advice, here is a good guide for it:
