Hello! First I'd like to thank the whole team behind this game, truly a nice initative.

But to my issue. I've played WoW for over a year and have been roleplaying in there. Unfortunaly that game is so limited. You cannot take help of NPC's in roleplaying events and such. Also if you wish to use all of the items and spells for roleplayign purposes you have to work your ass off to get somewhere. Basicly as a roleplayer you have to play at least 1 month in game time to get the items, skills, spells and whatever to be able to roleplay as you wish.

I wonder if PS is diffrent? If I download and install do I have to do a millions of quests where I just go kill stuff over and over and over. Or can I start as an old grumpy wizard traveling or if possible living in his little tower experimenting with magic and researching.

I'd hate to go through the pain of leveling again without any fun interaction, with WoW I can't barely play with my roleplaying friends when they go somewhere where my level is not enough. Otherwise I'm very interested in PS.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Planeshift!

And to answer your question, you don't need the best equipment, swords, spells and the highest skills to be able to roleplay.
And starting the game as a grumpy old wizard living in his high tower, how is that realistic?
You start the game as a simple peasant, from there you need to develop both your skills and your roleplay.

Simply put, if you want to roleplay an incredibly powerful wizard with expertise in every spell out there, yes, you'll need to train.

I guess you're right in a way.

Another question I've got though. The reason I had to level and such in WoW was mostly because the armor in the beginning (which I'm okay if it's looking quite more "nooby" then later one) was so ugly in the beginning. I don't know if you're familiar with WoW but the things that look good is hardcore gaming stuff often. So it's annoying that you have to focus on hardcore PvP or PvE to get a nice outfit to use for roleplaying purposes.

When you start out in Planeshift, you have no armor.
Why would you have it anyway?

You can then buy leather armor or chainmail armour. Leather armor is cheap to get and looks good, chainmail armor is harder to get but doesn't necessarily look better. Depends on your taste. I haven't seen any equipment in Planeshift that is really ugly.

Just try to remember that development is far from complete, in a lot of cases you have to rely on your imagination and while that helps to allow you to roleplay you are what you are not, there is very little to visually distinguish one character and another using the same racial character model.

A lot of people just stand around and chat about things which never happened and they call it roleplaying.  So aside from developing some sort of personality disorder and power complex, there's nothing you need to work on in order to fit in with the community once you start your character.

Yes, and there are some people who sit around a table, get a large rulebook, roll some dices and chat about things that never happened and they call it roleplaying.

It is just a way to overcome the limitations of Planeshift as a  :beta: game, but some people go to far and RP being "uber-characters" with almost godly powers(Here is and exaggerated example of what is called godmodding: Being a medieval "Rambo" and fighting with two claymores - instead of the modern akimbo machineguns -  X-/, plus taking down pterosaurs with a single longbow shot easily - I know choppers are tougher, but it's still ridiculous  :P). Luckily I never witnessed a so absurd case like this hypothetical example(Although some people insist of wielding two claymores due to a bug or limitation - I'm sure they're supposed to be two-handed weapons ) , I already saw people making fights almost like if they were those DBZ "Super-Sayajins" and that really spoils roleplaying.

And if you want some advice, here is a good guide for it:

Let me suggest another point of view:

There are so many kinds of "roleplay": Find or found your own. ;)

... So long as it doesn't disturb others or violate the rules.
