Audible taunts

I would very much like to be able to click on another character and cause a noise of some kind, a greeting, a gibe, something to get his attention. Standardized ones would be good to start with but customizable ones that are sent from one machine to another would be even better. I am guessing the latter would not be developed due to the possibility of abuse but some kind of recording/reporting system could be built to take account of it.

u would need some people who can do some kool voices tho... and some fart sounds for dwarves  ;D

Plus im pretty sure u couldnt do this kind of thing in a quiet room? dont they have studios for this thing...

But its a good idea, very fun to play with, the ones on WoW get pissed off if u click em to much.

But i think actually english words in game should be annoying a lot. rather some "Ehm" sound.

just put homer simpson in the game, that should fix alot  ;D

ABSOLUTELY NOT.  This would would be abused to no end.

I dunno it could be moderated in a similar manner as challenges\trades. It would seem ideal for situations in which you are waiting for someone off in the wilderness and you have nothing better to do than meditate [watch tv]. When buddy finally shows up he can attract your attention. Of course you might counter that you could be advising, or telling, guilding or grouping but real RP'ers don't do any of that OOC stuff do they? ;) Certainly not if what you are up to is strictly on the QT.

The only way I could find this feature acceptable is if you could opt out of it in options.

That is a good idea, I would like to be able to turn it on separately as I normally play with no sound at all but I would make an exception for intelligible sounds on a case by case basis i.e. in the situation I posed above or something similar.

Ever play Sim Copter?  Lots of grunts and stuff.  It eventually became known as Simlish as the Sims got popular.  I don't know about the Sims, but in Sim Copter, you can swap out the audio files and change the grunts and stuff to whatever you want.

Also, it should be a local noise, not a private noise.  Unless you're close and you do a *psst.

As for abusing, bah.  I can walk around going "booga" to people in real life, and there isn't even a /report command.  As long as I leave before they can attack me or summon a cop, I'm fine.


Ideally, we'd all have microphones and the game would run a voice changer.  Then there would be background chatter, realistic grunts, intonation, and all kinds of great stuff.  It would be a pain if you're trying to play in a noisy place, or where other people want quiet.  But that's something that's still a long way off, if it ever happens at all for this game.

Maybe when the electrode-hat controller gets advanced enough, we'll be able to synthesize voices, accents and all, without moving our mouths.  That would solve the "playing PlaneShift in a library" problem.
