0/50 weapons ... some of my thoughts

  i think a 0/50 weapon should fall apart in your hand and you lose the object.. 0/50 implies that the weapon couldn't be in worse shape.. maybe the blade broke or maybe you hit something with it so many time the handle came off.. now without some serious knowledge in sword making and repair the weapon would be lost forever.. seriously are you going to repair a broken blade with some tape and hope for the best or am i to believe that weapon repair kits contain magic welders that can rejoin steel.. if you don't care for a sword and just keep swinging it after the edge is gone.. all you really have is a skinny club that will break because it wasn't meant to be used like that... i think this would be in character as in real life.. swords break  that is why people make more.. if swords lasted forever why make more.. maybe even if it reaches 0/50 and you keep swinging it it snaps between the handle and the blade.. so you have a sword handle and a sword blade.. both useless until you can get to a smithy and repair it... people talk more about OCC but the way weapons work is totally OCC.. like i said in real life swords break and then are useless if you  cant get them fixed.. thi would also promote more role playing between people to get their swords fixed..

.... also think a swords quality rating should effect a RANDOM break in weaker weapons regardless of their rating so even a 30/50 sword could beak it you hit with it wrong.. give it a low probability so it only happens rarely... as in real life...

I do like that idea but it makes it hard on the players. Imagine having to go through 5 or 6 blades in oneday? I think that instead when a blade reaches its lowest quality thats when there should be a probability that it will break. After all just because its low quality doesn't mean its broken. It only means its overused and poor. Therefore its performance in battle will be extremely low leading up to the fact that it soon will break.

You are wrong that it could not be worse, it is merely temporarily unusable and will likely never be as good as new. 0/1 would be the worst as far as I can tell but it takes a long time and a lot of repairs to get there. I've been working an ax down to try and get there and I have managed to train from level 20 to 22 and still only got it to 17/17. That is a lot of repair, I tell you what!

I think a weapon like that could qualify as a collectible.On a more on topic note i think that blades should break.Thats why you should either have extras or be prepared to make the trip to town to get he fixed.By the way a broken blades repair should knock the maxium quality by a lot.After all you need to reforge the blade and attach it to whats still in the handle.A blade after those repairs doesent sound like a very usefull one to me.
