No Textures except for trees

Hi all, just installed the game after absolutely ages! Yay! But I seem to have a very strange problem. The only places that actually look okay are the trees! I´ve taken a screenie;



I´ve had a look around, but everyone else seems to have a different problem. Hope someone can help!

Which graphics driver do you use? The open source or 'official' ATI one?

If it's the official one, then try disabling openGL desktop effects like compiz, beryl etc. and let us know if that's the problem.

If it isn't, then try out the official one.

I have an ATI card, with the open source driver.

Try the official one then. The open source graphics drivers can be a bit dodgy, especially with newer cards.

I´ve followed the instructions on the page you suggested for the official ATI driver, rebooted and started the game again, but I still get the same problem. I noticed a message at the top of the screen which says;

indirect rendering may indicate a flawed opengl setup if you run on a local x server

if thatś any help...

It looks like some files and data are missing. Try reinstalling the game. If you still have a problem after that then try downloading the installer again, it might have corrupted when you downloaded it last.

Does 'glxinfo' (maybe 'fglrxinfo') show direct rendering = yes?

Soz for delay in replying. lol. I ended up getting hacked off with compy and reinstalled everything again, so Suvok, I am trying your suggestion at the minute.

Xordan: On using glxinfo, I get direct rendering = no. Which I guess is going to likely be the problem.  Any ideas what I need to do to turn it on?

Yes, that's your problem. For some reason direct rendering isn't enabled. I would suggest that people in the Ubuntu forums might be able to diagnose your problem there better than we can.

I found out the problem so I thought I would post it here incase someone else has the same problem.

If you are running compiz, you cannot have direct rendering enabled. Therefore, to run PS, you will need to login using a non-compiz login (e.g. plain gnome, kde, xfce, etc.) and run from there.
