Updater won't run from my desktop icon... [Fedora Core 6]

I use Fedora Core 6, and the install of PlaneShift was quick and painless (I thought it was going to take me a while -- it took less than two minutes!!), I know my video card is good because I used to play WoW: Burning Crusade on this computer on Windows XP before I installed the Fedora Core. I have 1 GB of ram.

So here's the issue:
The installer put an updater icon on my desktop, but whenever I click it, nothing happens!
Also, the game window itself flickers whenever I click on it, so does the setup window.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated because this looks like a good game!!

I have the same problem. (with fedora 7)

But if you downloaded the last version, I don't think you have to launch the downloader

change dir into your PS instalation directory and run fixlibs.sh (or how is it called) than you'll be able to run updater

I just installed the game in Fedora 7 with kde. I choose yes to systemwide and all the other options while running as root, set the user:group to me:me (no-one else uses my box) and it still installed the usr/bin/pl* as root/games. running planeshift from the commandline gave an unauthorised user error until I added myself to games after which the game just failed silently. Running the game from /opt/planeshift/psclient worked, possibly because I set the permissions to 777 in the installer. Server is down so I do not know if other problems will occur, I am not asking for advice, just relating my experience. The problem I mentioned may have something to do with selinux but that is pure speculation.


Tonight I ran the updater (/opt/PlaneShift/updater) and it crapped out due to first missing libssl.so.0.9.8. 'Locate libssl' returned /lib/libssl.so.0.9.8b. I fixed that by creating a symlink, probably not the best solution, and it then failed on a libcrypto which also existed on my computer with a trailing b so I ran fixlibs as a user (not root) and it deposited the files in my /home/me/libs/ directory. This obviously did not help much so I logged in as root and copied them into /opt/PlaneShift/libs. Updater is now working although the /usr/bin/ scripts I am not using as they seem to expect to be run as root.
