Detailed Setting: Addresses
« on: September 02, 2007, 07:46:29 pm »
With the arrival of Guild Houses, and the continued existence of important buildings that always occupy the same disposition within Hydlaa through the updates, I believe it's justifiable to add a bit more depth to the organization of the towns. I'm not sure if this exists already, and if it does, do forgive the redundancy, but I believe making up Street names and such is becoming necessary.
Having an actual address helps a lot, since some people might prefer to tell someone to head to Jeffer's street rather than pointing or being followed towards it.

It's obvious that it would also add to the role play experience.

That's a good idea, but I think it should be saved for when the game is larger. I mean when you add addresses, you might as well add them to things like the magic shop and Harn's smithery, but its such a small community right now, would it really need it? Besides, of all the buildings in Planeshift, less than a handful of them are usable.

That is currently bound to change, with the attribution of Guild Houses.

The fact that it is currently a small community and a small place actually contributes to the sense in making this now. The problem would be inputing the information in NPCs, and disposing the information in a manner both effective and reliable. For instance the creation of tablets advertising the names.
It would also depend if the configuration of the town will change or not. It has remained pretty much equal throughout the years... but if a change is planed, then it sure would make less sense to begin naming stuff now.

Well if yo have Guild houses on every street you might call the street after the guild

E.G   Purrty street     ( Royal house of Purrty :P)
or Imperial Lane ( Dark Empire :P)

Ah...just a Idea

I would like to see it after you can enter each house.
Aach house can be entered if there is made a few interriors and they are assigned to different doors. This means they are going to repeat. That in short.

I gues not everything should have an address too. I can't be sure about this one, but did every place in "civilised" land had an address in hmmm XV-XVII century?

Roberet,
I like these names! they are not taken randomly. I like this approach.

What you can failure tommorow, failure today.

I agree with Sangwa, street names, which can also be seen in-game would definitely add to the image of cities like Hydlaa. Some places like Ojaveda and smaller settlements wouldn't require street names so much. In Ojaveda we already have different districts and Dsars ... like Dsar Akkaio now which has a merchant district and a warehouse district. There I don't really see the need for street names yet.

I also like Roberet's idea for naming streets after resident guilds.

As for Sangwa ... he's been working on the settings for a while now, only from a guild leader position :P

Tyrnal Relhorn, Captain of the Vaalguard
Thromdir Shoake, Merchant
Giorn Kleaver, Miner.

Uhm - no.

1) Purrties are only guests in Yliakum. Their home is Printh.
2) The house is property of Donari Tyndale. The Royal House of Purrty only rents it.

I agree, it makes more sense to implement after we have plenty more houses. Just giving the thought.

"Imperial Lane?" Hmm. Dark Lane. That's better. Not that I agree though, since the Dark Empire's stay on Hydlaa is temporary.

It's actually something I've been thinking for a while. I wouldn't mind. Though I wouldn't leave the Empire for it. I like doing it like Zan said. :D
