game display is weird
« on: September 03, 2007, 11:52:33 pm »
I installed Ubuntu Dapper Drake (6.06 LTS) yesterday. I installed PlaneShift today. When I logged into PlaneeShift I needed to create a new character. So I did. Almost all the races either did not have a model or the few that did had Diaboli hair. No body, no thing. Same thing for Male and Female. Perplexed, I went ahead with the process and made a Diaboli. I tried to use that chracter. After a bit of loading I was in. Weirdly, I saw large flipped text that took up the whole bottom of the scree n. The Chat window and the rest of the GUI worked but the models and everythign else didn't the background was still the Hydlaa loading screen and when I tried to move aroung it looked really weird. The same Diaboli hair got bigger and smaller and left stuff on the screen. When I moved my cursor around (the upside down staff like thing) it went around the skin leaving itself on the screen. I clicked the chat window and typed '/die' to kill myself. Same thing happened except the death realm loading screen was in the backgrounf instead of the Hydlaa one. I typed '/exit' and quit. I reinstalled PlaneShift. I tried again, same symptoms. I exited and then came and posted here.

post the output of this or just check direct rendering

glxinfo | egrep 'OpenGL|direct'

also try updating your drivers, that can't hurt

edit: if you just installed any type of linux, in this case ubuntu, just a few days ago you might want to get used to it first. it's not windows so don't expect it to behave like windows/ be like windows

Hey there,

For future reference, be sure to post all Linux related threads in the Linux section of the forum. Better yet, search around for previous threads that might already contain instructions and solutions to a problem you might be experiencing - it could work out for you much faster.
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.
