End game in ps
« on: March 22, 2003, 05:20:49 pm »
What kind of end game will there be in ps?

By end game i mean once your done leveling what is
there to keep you hooked and playing?

I would hope for a system that would allow people to
do some pvp in an specific area for certain bonuses
or advantages.  Say certain in certain area either
castles or fortresses or different points of intrest
like a large crystal or something, could be fought
over and \"controled\" by a guild.  The guild would then
get a bonus for controling the fort or point of intrest.

This would help break the mantra of leveling up to get
stronger to be able to get powerful items so you can
level up more to get even more powerful items and
so on...

Kiern, I\'ve read many posts and I think everything on the site (I might have missed something), but I didn\'t see anything that states you never max out or anything to that effect.
You are here,
You will always be here,
You will never be there.
Although you may strive to get there,
upon reaching there you will realize you are really here.
And there is everywhere else.

I remember reading somewhere that there going to be no levels, and that there was just going to be experience points? Is that right?

Even if there are no levels, you still get exp and you can raise your stats, right?  Unless you never max out, someone could potentially get max in every single category (with race limitations), which means that what Arctic Dragoon says does have some validity, and I think having some forts to fight over would be cool.  You could set a stationary place for your guild.

I think that there will TONS of things to be able to do in this game, with all the skills, jobs, quests, guilds and such there would lots of things to strive for.  I like the idea about having specific areas and buildings that could be fought for between certain guilds, and perhaps even an arena for players to battle each other.  :D

I don\'t see why they would put it so you could max out...as PS will continue to implement new things...also as Murdok said there will be many other things to do besides gain exp.

Well, as everybody before me said, things will always continue to be implemented into the game continously. However, between the long \'big\' updates and the new updated version, what will there be there to do? We will need to look at what makes Real Life TM(How do you get the little TM inside the circle?) interesting. Something like things that are competitive, extremely long quests, frustrating... somethings, and so on.

The main thing is that you will have to actaully \'get\' to the top of the top, and that in itself will take a really long time...

The other idea I have is skill decay, but nobdoy will like that, so I will not talk about it.
You pay the same price for doing something halfway as for doing it completely. So you might as well do it completely.

I believe if you are that into the game... and that much without a life, you will not be disappointed if somehow, you max out your character.  If the only reason you are playing is to \'level\' up then you are insane and overly competetive anyway.

Hmmm, it reminds me of a little game called \"Tibia\". In Tibia, the only thing you did was to kill everything that moved, to gain XP. Then you got more powerful, and could kill even stronger \"things-that-moves\", and when you were powerful enough, you went berserk and began attacking newbies who couldn\'t defend themselfes. Every time you died you lost almost all the XP you had gained that day. As you\'ve guessed already, it got extremely boring after some time. :O
It is even worse than Runescape! (yes, it\'s true)

To the subject...
I\'m not sure you\'ll even be able to \"max\" your character. There is XP, but not necessary lvls right?
Oh, and correct me if I\'m wrong, but isn\'t the world evolving by itself?

FYI:

The game has no levels because it is a pseudo-UO-style skill system instead.  Yes, you may be able to max out skills, but (just as a guess as I am not speaking for the rules team) I would imagine that would be hard to impossible with a exponential gains system.  Also like UO, a skill based system makes a game where \"leveling\" isn\'t really the point.  You just build up you char to a decent level (ideally through normal fun activity) and then do what you want : kill the dragon, save the maiden, etc.  Grouping becomes a necessity for any large task due to the fact there are no Uber-characters.  Crafting skills are presented similarly; you make stuff, get better, invent new stuff, become 1337.
