Mac installer help

i'm all around new to macs and I was just wondering how i download this game using a mac. i tried downloading it and when it finished downloading from bittorrent it tells me to find an application on the computer that would open the file. i don't know what application to use

The thing you downloaded is a torrent file. It tells a bit torrent client where to get the game. You will need to download a bit torrent client (the same is true on Windows, by the way). I recommend Azureus (click the link to start downloading Azureus ). Once you've installed the bit torrent client, just open the torrent file with the bit torrent client. It'll do the rest.
