Heya folks. As I was walking around PS yesterday, some rumors came to mine little ears. It seems that the Dev/GMs/whoever have been using the plague thing in Oja as the base of a few RPs or Events in the last few days. By what I heard, it sounded like a bit of fun. But, another rumor I heard has me kinda disturbed.
A few Yellows were running all around the game yesterday, passing out potions, and telling folks not to worry about the plague, but to pass the potions out to people they hold dear as fast as they could. Now, if you ask me, this was aimed at causing a little panic. Also fun stuff. It was the second part of what I heard that disturbed me. It seems some players in Oja suddenly -decided- that the potions were not vaccines for the plague as the event was saying, but poison. So, they started /die-ing themselves off!
Now, if you ask me, that is a bit rude, and likely counter to what was being planned. If it was a poison, those folks would not have had to /die. GMs would have simply /kill <playerthattook the potion>. I know it was not poison, as many people took them over in Hydlaa as well, and no one /die-d there.
I like seeing events happen, but I would assume it discourages the folks doing them if players try to change the meaning of them. So, try to be more understanding. Don't override their RP. Accept what rewards are given, even if you think they should be more. And talk about the events to others IC, so everyone knows about them. That is one thing I don't like, is that once the events are over, most people just go back to what they were doing, and basically foget the event ever happened.
I did ask someone who is in the know, and no, the potions were not poison. In fact, they were not even cures. They were normal green/red/white potions with a bit of snake oil added to them (the explanation for the Q300, I guess), to avert any panic from the rumors of the plague spreading. In other words, they were sugar pills, and the event was designed to -start- panic.
Anyways. Have fun. Be creative. But don't step on any toes.
