Vista Porblem, Visuals arn't wroking
« on: November 20, 2007, 07:07:24 pm »
Hi,
Well, the problem is both before and after world loading, but mainly after.
It says Planeshift is vista compatible, great, so i donwload the new version and find that 'The program running can't cope with the visuals of vista'. I continue and when i select my character it doesn't show the model of them, just a big white box. I manage to get my character and load the world. (Loading screen is a massive white box. no visuals there)
In the game, the inventory, and any pop up windows (Buddy list, options menu, status bar, message box) Are all white boxes. none of the writing shows up and there arn't any of the nice backgrounds that i love about Planeshift.
Also the models of the characters arn't loading properly, they change the colours of the items and models and they sometimes display colours and programming code on the models. The grass doesn't load, they are just simple planes with no textures, and in the areas, little bits dissasappear and it doesn't load properly.
Overall it goes very laggy and just unplayable.
I used to play the game on XP until i got my new laptop. So I know about it and know how it should run, but it just isn't and I realy want to play it again!

Thanks in advance

I've got PS running on two vista laptops, however the only way I can do it is by loading the XP drivers. Updating the drivers just makes the problem worse on both I've tried. Only downside to the downgrade is losing aero, if you consider that an upgrade in the first place.

Try it, if it doesn't work just install the 'latest' vista driver again.

Ok, do you mean the whole XP operating system or just some files from Xp? And where to get them from, I don't have the whole XP system.
Thanks

Most likely it's the video card and/or the video drivers that are giving you your headaches.
I'm currently running Planeshift on a Vista laptop with no problems, but I have a decent video card with updated drivers.

Do you have any idea what video card is in your laptop and if the drivers are up to date?

Determine what kind of graphics card you have and go to the manufacturers website and download the XP driver for your card.

If you provide the card info, it would help.

Vista:

Start > type device manager in the search box > click the device manager program > look under display adapters.

OR

Start > right click computer > properties > device manager > display adapters

Huh, I don't really know anything about that graphics card manufacturer.  There is always the possibility PS and SiS chips don't play well together (I hope that's not the case for your sake)

Here is the download page for their drivers http://www.sis.com/download/agreement.php?url=/download/
But they suggest going to the Laptop manufacturers sight to get updated drivers, seeing as many motherboard manufacturers tweak their setup.  Probably a good idea.

Don't need to know anything else, that vid card chipset doesn't support the required pixel shader for PS, it wouldn't work properly no matter what OS you were running. I run PS on Vista with a 8600GT, it's fine.
