running, running and killing, killing
« on: January 05, 2008, 11:21:05 pm »
something is not right.
i was writing once about stamina usage when dodging.
well, now i know why i was thinking about that.

im playing planeshift for about one month (i know some of you play this game for years).
there are people waiting near spawns and killing many times the same creature.
there are people running thru many creatures killing them with two or three hits. killing three, four of them in half a minute, and im not talking about rats and clackers.
it looks so stupid..

why there is a way to become that powerfull? (money are not the problem, guilds provide them). in a fantasy worlds there are no more than two or three people that powerwull. and them in action would be fun to watch.
in planeshift we have many players running and destroing everything that moves. to gain some progresion points.
its too easy to become that powerfull.

i am thinking now how to fix it, maybe stamina should increase really slow? that slow, that you wont run till its nesesery?
oh yes, people will start to walk, it would be great. everyone is running now - in town, outside the town.. is it mario bross?

and maybe in fight stamina should go down just as quick as in running mentioned above?
(yes, people will stop fighting more then one, two creatures a day or will start to do this in groups). it will help to interest them in jobs also etc..
i dont know, nothing better comes to my mind, but please, do something to make killing monsters really hard and.. rare (and im not talking about rising their hp,
im talking about hole fight/move system - well stamina will do the trick).

every other game i would just leave.. but this one i found great.
roleplay is awsome, quests are great, combaining progression points and money with learning and practise is a great idea. it is all so close to real fantasy world!
but the final use of gained skills is terrible. you just pack yourself with strenght and endurance and thats it. you run and kill. two shots killing machine. there are too many killing machines. its not quake!

well, thats how i feel. if someone is thinking that way too, please write about it, maybe something can be done.

Guilds provide the funds for training? Really? Point me off to one, and I'll be on my merry way.

In all seriousness, I don't know about you, but everyone I know personally, along with myself, have earned their tria by themselves, or with help from friends, but not from guilds.
There's a fine line between genius and insanity.

I sort of agree on some points, like how everyone is super powerful... However I disagree with your stamina idea, at least for now, as running is the only means of transportation, sure increasing the rate at which stamina drops once goujah's and other mounts are in game might not be a bad idea, but for now, it is a bad idea. The only suggestion I can propose is making it harder to train... Its been discussed a lot. Though I have heard somewhere that eventually the skill system might get redone completely... So who knows how this'll get fixed, but I can almost assure you increasing stamina loss wont happen until there are better more luxurious was of traveling, in which case running from oja to hydlaa would seem trivial.

I know a guild that supplies fundings for training. About 20k per real-life month for each player.
We're not evil. We're simply amazing.

Its not uncommon, guilds like their members to be well pampered.

I really, really doubt that stamina is the answer to turn this game around.

People fight a lot in planeshift because that is where the money and the experience is. Cut down stamina to one tenth of what it is now and that won't change. People will still fight things. There is no other way to gain experience and only one other way to get tria that can compete.

The combat system was around long before any crafting even existed, no wonder it is so used.

I suggest you're just patient and wait for more and more jobs to come into the game. Then you wait some longer until the Devs balance things out, to make sure that you can earn just a much experience and tria by hammering on things for ten minutes straight, than you can by beating things up for ten minutes straight. :P

As for those guilds, they still have to make their money like everyone else. It's not because you create a guild that you get some secret governement owned bank account to pay everyone from. ::)

im in a guild that gives money (huge sums - at least for me they are huge) for training. nevermind, its not the problem of this topic.
i think is not an problem at all.

to Earl_Listbard - making it harder to train is no solution at all. it will only slow down the process of becoming super powerfull.
and im talking about some limitations that could make fighting look less stupid. reducing chance of heaving non risk fight to zero even for super strong.
you say running is the only way to travel.. for me, to travel, means something more than 10 minutes of run.
if you could not run you would proopably not go alone. you will wait for someone to assist you, to make trip more entertaining.
would it be bad? roleplay is so good in this game, why not to stick to it?
is it normal that you can go few times from Hydlaa to BD in one day?

to Zan - i think that less stamina means less fights. haw can you hit with no stamina? and you cant run away with no stamina.. so you would think twice before starting a fight.. dont get me wrong. i like fighting. and i like the idea of killing monsters. but i dont like the idea of world not dengerous at all. with no risk and fun. world full of all the time running people and two shots killing machines.

I like your thinking on this, but that should be a more of a wish list topic... in the wish list section. Though I do understand - and see a valid point to this now, when I think about it, unless you had been training a very, very long time, you shouldn't be able to run to ojaveda  from hydlaa, even if you stop three times to rest, your average person would need around five breaks, well, unless they walked. And in today's world, around any time period people generally walked, despite this... I still am unsure of it, though now that you mention it making leveling harder never stopped anyone in last chaos...

Honestly i think that training in this game is really hard. At first it was near impossible to get enough pp to train anything (also equally as difficult to get money...though once i figured out mining it wasnt too bad). Then later once i finally was strong enough to kill the higher pp mobs, it became a question of making enough money to afford the expensive costs of higher levels. At this point training crystal way one level costs over 10k.....and im not even that high a level!! I spend most of my time (that is time not spent RPing..by the way one of the best parts of the game if you didnt know already  ;) ) trying to make enough money to afford one level in some skill or another.

Dont let this be taken as a complaint, i like the way it is :D it makes it all the more satisfying when you do reach a new plateau of strength, because it took so much work to get there.  Im just saying i really dont find it a piece of cake to be monstrously strong...

its not easy? at the beginning maybe, and as i remember the beginning was the biggest fun. but then you pack yourself with str and end and kill, kill, kill.
(yes, money could be a problem, but if you find a guild with money, you superstrong in two weeks!)
why are the money only problem? why it is so ease to gain progress points?
because you can kill all day long running from one monster to another in their spawn area.
as i said, it looks so stupid.. and it ruins roleplay, what can you say, when you see something like that?
(he is hunting? killing about twenty ulbernauts in an hour?). :/

Personally I don't work training too much into my roleplay. Either they're training in the arena or they're hunting creatures in the wild or sewers. I won't go into more detail.

As for combat being easy .. of course it is, people pick the easy combat because it doesn't kill them and they don't need to heal. It's called grinding. But you can't tell me there aren't any dangerous creatures out there that can rip your head straight off. Then you haven't been searching well. :P

Ever fought a Malbernaut, Malfusang, the cutthroats at the northern road out of Hydlaa, ... I really doubt that you can take those on after two weeks of grinding.

That has happened ... as a recruitmend bait sometimes, sometimes just out of generosity but only as a starter (again and again - thanks, Janner). But expecting a guild to pay all the training up to impressive levels is ... uhm, demanding, nicely said.

This is a "roleplaying oriented game". Good roleplayers hardly need much more than basic skills just to survive accidents. But if you decide to powerlevel: Do that. During the coming months and years. In reality, you don't become a martial arts master much faster.

Obviously we have completely different views of what "superstrong" is, as there's no way I'd be satisfied with my status after only two weeks of training.

Now, I'm a self-admitted powerleveler, and even for just training weapons and armor, things get expensive (though nothing at all like for magic).  Take me for example; I mined for about three weeks straight, and wound up with 750k.  In a span of about four days I've spent a third of that, all of it on training weapons, and more than likely I'll have to go back to the mines in about two weeks.

Also, your sense of time is off.  I realize that it's not realistic that, with maxed stats, we can run non-stop, but it takes a lot longer than you mentioned to go from one side of the world to the other; going from the fortress to akkaio takes about 30 minutes of non-stop running, taking all the shortcuts; I don't even want to imagine how long that would take if I had to walk the whole way.
