R.I.P. Gary Gygax, co-creator of D&D
« on: March 05, 2008, 12:16:33 am »
Man this man has affected my life so much, what an amazing gift he gave to the world!  Bye Gary, you will be sorely missed, but your imagination continues on, here on Earth...

Well that sucks. He is a huge loss to the gaming community. May he rest in peace.
I've been outside, it's overrated and the graphics suck!

Well we say rest in peace, but surely his adventures in the underworld are only just beginning...;)

-- Penny Arcade.
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

A wonderful caring person who made these game what they are today. I pray for his family at this time of such a great loss.

Indeed, the loss of a founding father in the gaming world is a hard blow.  My imagination and creativity grew by leaps and bounds due to this game and its many descendants.  His presence will be missed.  I regret never being able to meet him in person.

He made a great impact on the world of RPGs (not solely of course), the big man will be missed. The phrase, he'll be rolling in this grave, has a new meaning now. :D

I admit i never heard the name until this thread, but I've played some D&D in my day, as well as countless other games that wouldn't exist had D&D never existed.  So it's a sad thing :-/

I was pretty upset when I heard.  I was fortunate enough to have actually played 2nd Ed with Gary Gygax at a convention many many years ago.  Afterwards I asked him to sign some of my dice, but dice are small and the signature didn't come out well.  The dice then became somewhat unlucky, I don't know why; and for ages after my friends and I would refer to a bad dice roll as a 'Gary'.  I still have them, won't ever sell 'em.

It just all seems very back-to-front really, it should be the players who die, not the Dungeon Master.

It's sad to hear about this.  :(

May he rest in peace, or have great adventures in the underworld. Whichever he prefers.   :P
