Asking NPC's questions during quests: They cannot understand me.

I am on a quest to find Remants Gauntlets.  He told me to go to three different places and ask the employees if they've seen them.  Every time I ask them, they say that they don't understand.  I've tried:

Have you seen Gauntlets?
Have you seen Remant's Gauntlets?
Did you find Gauntlets?
Have you found Gauntlets?
Have you found Remant's Gauntlets?
Did you find Remant's Gauntlets?
Gauntlets?
Find Gauntlets?
Seen any Gauntlets?
and so forth...

I've been at this quest for 2 days and I've come up with nothing.  Only a whole bunch of "I don't understand's".  Any suggestions?  All remant says is "Ask around."  I don't know how to ask.  I hope I'm not breaking any rules by asking for help on a quest.  If it's considered a spoiler then don't answer this thread.  I'm about to pull out my hair though.

1. any other open quests?
2. try just "about gauntlets" in the places that he mentions.

1. Give me the Remants gaunlets?
2. Where are the Remants gaunlets?
etc.

Use trigger words, or just simply spam every possible "I want gaunlets" variation.
Sooner or later, you'll find an answer that the system reacts to.
