Hi y\'all. I just read the FAQ and such on the game, checked out some screenshots.... all I can say is WOW! I\'ve never anticipated a game more than right now.

My wish... well I read under the Musician job, and it mentioned something about singing. Will this be implimented? That is my wish, and there should also be a number of voices that can be selected (ie Bass, Baritone, Tenor, Countertenor, Contralto, Alto, Mezzo Soprano, Soprano). That would be just amazing! A farfetched/unnecessary feature, but I would die a happy man were this in a game.

I can\'t help y\'all with the programming, but if you do the singing thing, you\'ll need voice samples... hee hee let me know if you need Tenor, Baritone, and Countertenor samples.

Yes this would be interesting. You could sing different songs as spells.
Of course it wouldn\'t be singing, it would be \"ah\" and \"Oo\" since words would make it waay to complicated.


I could see...

-Lullaby\'s for putting monsters to sleep.
-Songs that increase will (that\'s a stat remember).
-Songs that make you relax and heal faster.
-Special very high/low pitched matter-shattering notes.
-Combine with other ranged voices for special spells that require harmony.

Perhaps these spells could be amplified by using an instrument (especially a magic instrument), instead of just your voice. ...well er maybe...

This wouldn\'t be added until way far in the future though, when we\'ve all become bored and need some new out-there features.

i agree that this would be really something new ...but the question is how? ...we could either have different creatures (including PCs) respond to different songs in different ways and the bards would only have to learn them ...that\'d be the simplest way IMHO

...but i really like the idea, i see it as entering \"sing mode\" and the voice responding to the keys you touch on your keyboard (anyone played loom or zelda, occarina of time?) to form songs ...the songs would be already made, but you\'d have to learn them yourself (as in remind them, or write them down ...not just click the \"enkidukkai lullaby\" icon)

I like the idea of magical singing, it\'s cool! I was thinking just singing for the purposes of singing, but all those ideas for singing spells were cool. *imagines a traveling choir/coven weaving spells and harmonizing*.

Something else challenging would be getting the voices right for the different races. Surely they wouldn\'t sound similar at all.

Who says that\'s not singing? Some of my favorite songs (ie Cassandra Wilson\'s interpretation of Chelsea Bridge) have no words at all.

EDIT: Forgot to mention something: If we\'re using the keys for notes, a simple system would be A0, B1, C-1 and such. Using A to G, and the number denotes what octave it is in (depending on the singer\'s range, since a tenor\'s A0 [middle A] would be an octave below a soprano\'s A0). Just a suggestion. Also brings up another question: How large of ranges would characters have? I know my range is a little larger (3 octaves) than most, and so wouldn\'t be a great model. I think roughly 2 octaves is the norm, or something, for good-sounding singing.

sounds like a good idea... but I don\'t think singing should be done like real singing... meaning with words...

Maybe just notes?  Then again... if you get the quality good enough having people sing wouldnt be bad... maybe different characters would have different random \'voices\' so that they can only sing different types... and then each song would be broken down into several types that can be learned by different people... and then when a group of singers get together and choos to sing the same song (supposing that each person is singing a different part of the song and that all the parts of the song are being sung) something special would happen... maybe...

EQ and DAOC both have this type of spell effect through singing idea, and probably so do other games.

While the spell effect idea is good, why can\'t it just be about singing? Does everything in a game have to have a combative/magical use?

...well, he has a point there ...but then the singing and playing (music) should be really made good

I would agree with that - this is an RPG afterall... maybe bardic players could sell their skills to taverns (that are btoh player and NPC run) and workt here way up to \'Court Bards\' and the like... still would be just something for fun and prestige...
