mouse trails and drawing artifacts in back of z-buffer

Wanted to report two intermittent drawing/rendering issues

I noticed that sometimes I see "mouse trails" when moving the mouse that either dissappear completely , or remain on the screen (mostly transparrent ).
This is hit or miss - usually restarting the program fixes it. Sometimes I need to restart a few times before it looks right.

The second observation is that when in BD, it seems that there is corruption in the back of the z-buffer. For example, if I stand on the bridge, or the eagle's head in bd and look towards the grassy hills ( entrance of bd ), the section that should look grassy contains artifacts from the stone on the left and right - its as if this most distant section is not getting repainted. I font this to be fairly consistent in BD both before and after the upgrade to 4.0.

I see this sometimes in other areas sometimes but not as much as in bd.

I dont see this with other games/apps.

I also notice choppy stop and go movement in most areas of bd - even if looking at the floor only and rotating - I am guessing that this is the particle issue...
- for example, in bd if I go into the fortress at top of hill, look down at the floor only so i can see floor only , and rotate, I will stop rotating once per revolution.
