Insults
« on: April 19, 2003, 09:49:52 pm »
WHY? People used to insult people by biting their thumbs and such.... why are all insults not either one fo the following?

\" {OBSCENE ACTION} my {OBSCENE BODY PART}\"

or

\"You are a {INSERT SEXUAL PREFERENCE}!\"

or the best yet

\"I 4(\\/) 733t!!1!! U 5UXX0RS!!1!!!\"

Call me ignorant, call me stupid, call me a putz, do what you will.... but don\'t tell me to do such and such to your such and such or tell me I\'m gay... first of all, I give alot of credit to gay people, if I was gay and had to face the close-minded ignorance of the modern world, I\'d collapse. I don\'t consider calling somebody gay insulting... thats like calling somebody a girl or calling somebody a chinese food lover and meaning them as insults... you can\'t attack people because they were born with different likes, dislikes, needs, and desires.

anyway, Im done ranting...thats my vent for the day :P

wait... so you\'re saying its an insult to tell someone they lack testosterone? How is that an insult... and they don\'t have too much of what \"girls are supposed to have\".... its solely a testosterone issue... but how is it an insult? Thats much like me saying, \"You have blues eyes!\" Its a physical attribute.... why call someone gay? I am in actuality homophobic... I have been diagnosed homophobic.... I get extremely tweaked around homosexual people.... yet I don\'t go around calling people gay to insult them.

I would be willing to wager that you don\'t applaud at the local theater for you fear you would be arrested for spousal abuse.......

I dare not shake your hand for I see you suffer of the sticky palm......

an open minded homophobic person, well I\'ll be! :)

BTW kyp14, making fun of someone for lack of testosterone is like making fun of someone for missing a leg.

Actually, I don\'t believe that \'gay\' as an insult has too much to do with sexual orientation at all.  On three different levels of the word.
First off, the current insult of gay may be a throwback to the happy naivity bordering on stupidity of the original word.
Second, before it became common usage for homosexual activity, it was used to describe odd things (\'queer\' is in the same boat), one of which came into prevalence as refering to sexual orientation.  And everyone knows that all odd things are quick to be ridiculed.
Thirdly, hardly anyone means any malice to homosexuals when they say it.  The dumbasses that do that kind of thing have moved on to more insulting words and phrases.  This is much like the fact that no one really thinks of sex when they casually use the word \'fuck.\'

EDIT: I wasn\'t thinking about the arbitrary removal of rather well used and useful adjectives from our written and widely viewed use of English.  I\'m sure you all know what the final word really is.

All rather amusing considering that most homophobes therefore classify gay as being male-gender only.  Apparently, being lesbian is just fine, which is just utterly hypocritical.

I take umbrance to the \"something went wrong with someone and that\'s why they\'re gay\" theory, as it is, in all reality, utter bollox.  It\'s like saying that something went wrong with my melanin and that\'s why I\'m black...

Homophobes amuse me - because thinking every gay person is attracted to you (which I think is the only reason homophobes get so bent out of shape, oh look I said \"bent\") is rather like thinking every woman on the planet thinks you\'re sexy.  Sorry to burst the ego, but that\'s rather farfetched.  Besides; chances are you\'re around people who are gay all the time and you don\'t even know it.  Not all gay men are like Hollywood from \"Mannequin\".  Saying it\'s a \"testosterone\" issue is indeed insulting because testosterone has nothing to do with it.  Quite  a few gay men in history were double \'ard warriors and incredibly hardcore.

Being called \"gay\" hardly worries me because, as Eddie Izzard says \"those sorts of people always travel in groups of five, because they only have a fifth of a personality each.\"   I\'ve been called worse, and I\'m hardly so bent out of shape (oh look I said it again) about my sexuality that I have to get defensive about it, either on or offline.  Since when does someone\'s opinion affect how I live my life?  *shrug*

*sigh* It has been scientifically proven that it is a testosterone issue in males... and I don\'t believe that EVERY gay man is attracted to me, in fact, i wouldn\'t be at all surprised if NO gay man was attracted to me... I simply feel akward around homosexual people, NOT just homosexual men. Why? I don\'t know. Should I be? Probobly not. As for why I didn\'t mention females in this topic... when do you see a guy call a female \'gay\' as an insult? It\'s used, in majority, by males... for no other reason than males tend to be less mature and more close-minded (In my experience) as stereotypical as this may be, it has been my experience throughout life. Furthermore, the reason I do not explain why females are gay is simply because I do not have that knowledge. In actuality, the only reason I know why males become gay, or rather are born gay, is because my cousin is gay.... and he is one of the best quarterbacks I have seen in a long time.... yet he still has a testosternone imbalance causing a shift in sexual interest. How do I know this? He has not only admitted it to me, he has admitted to being attracted to me.... this seems to be where the Homophobia stemmed from. Well, enough for now... you probobly understood little of what I intended to be a point, but my writing skills leave much to be desired.

I trust \"scientific studies\" about as much as I can spit a rat.  There\'s be studies that people could feasibly live off Guinness and multivitamin tablets.  There have been studies to \"prove\" the inferiority of a particular race, and various studies held as being totally cutting edge until ten years later, when they\'re proven to be nonsense.   Not as a personal affront to you, I hope you pardon me for finding such a study completely comical.  I\'ll check on that particular theory in about another eight years, when they reverse it.
