When stepping away from the computer for a bit what do we do?
« on: November 01, 2008, 05:39:47 pm »
Hi,

I was wondering, when we have to step away from the computer for few minutes do we use the command /idle so that nothing will happen to us? And how to we undo this when we get back? I think I saw it on the board at one point but my search turned up nothing.

Thank you.

You may be referring to the commant /away , which sends a message to anyone messaging you. Set and unset it using the following formula:
/away (on/off) (message/no message if turning off)

Which returns the following:
[Autoreply] (Message)

Hope that helps.

He means so no monsters attack or something... In which case, I suggest getting about 30 ft from any monster spawns near you. and hope they don't wander

Okay...  lemme get this straight... ;) You mean to tell me that our characters have a built-in answering machine functions?  ::|

away messages are OOC

Just like you shouldn't be immediately running half way around the world to meet up with your friends when you see their name become green in your buddy list.

IC'ly, they are always there, always doing something.

Obviously. Perhaps I misunderstood the original poster's intent. No, I do not believe characters have in-built answering machines.

If wanted I always have myself and a friend coincidentally be going to the same place >.> Or just go to the tavern where half of them tend to be. Lolitra's the hard one to find.

But yeah, away messages are done by saying /away 'message' and are turned off by /away off like said by Eathon. Not sure if it was stated clearly enough, this will ONLY reply to those who send you a /tell, and are, as Neko pointed out, OOC.

Dang...  And I was sooo looking forward to the amusement.

Seriously though, what seems to work the best is if you are alone, just go...  If it's an extended away, simply log out.  Then when you aren't so busy with RL, log back in.  If you are with a group of people, I've used the excuse that I need to go use the sewers or something similar, then run around a corner, face a wall, and go do what ever I need to do.  Sometimes you'll see people yawn indicating they are about ready to leave either for the night or to go do something else.  There are always ways to IC'ly let someone know you aren't there.  (I actually rp most tells as a form of telepathy unless the tells are in brackets so using /away as an answering machine wouldn't work anyway.)

*Edig grins, then looks at the fun spoilers* so there...  :p

Oh.. and to answer the original question, there isn't a command such as /idle as far as I know...  you can see the list of commands by going to the system tab and typing the / followed by the tab key.  this will show you what's available.  Enjoy!!!
