can't connect to server but it's online
« on: January 05, 2009, 09:41:24 am »
hi there. I already checked for the related topics but they're all old so I start a new one !!

I succeed to install the game but everytime I try to play, in the connection page, the small box on the right tells me the connection to fragnetics failed... and it's right, I cannot connect to the game  :'(

I'm using ubuntu 8.10 (intrepid ibex).
I have the V.0.4.03 of the game
I ran the updater and the answer was : "No updates needed!"
I tried with the -repair option and the answer was : "All files passed the check !"
I tried to ping the fragnetics server and I got this answer :
Code: [Select]
didi@didi-laptop:/opt/PlaneShift$ ping laanx.fragnetics.com -c 4
PING laanx.fragnetics.com (137.132.243.67) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 137.132.243.67: icmp_seq=1 ttl=47 time=354 ms
64 bytes from 137.132.243.67: icmp_seq=2 ttl=47 time=383 ms
64 bytes from 137.132.243.67: icmp_seq=3 ttl=47 time=365 ms
64 bytes from 137.132.243.67: icmp_seq=4 ttl=47 time=345 ms

--- laanx.fragnetics.com ping statistics ---
4 packets transmitted, 4 received, 0% packet loss, time 16167ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 345.356/362.173/383.613/14.228 ms
I granted an exception for the port on the firewall (using Firestarter) and he told me the port's name(called "service") was "unreal". I granted this "for everyone"
I also tried to connect after shutting down my firewall

But the answer was all the time "failed"

Do you have super magic solutions ? Because I don't know what more can I do

thanks !

PS: yeah, I also checked the server status and it's online !

Normally this shouldn't be necessary, but from theory point of view, you also have to forward inbound traffic to you client pc (I assume firewall and planeshift-client are on different machines)

Have a look at http://www.fs-security.com/docs/fs-manual.pdf and there page 14: Inbound.. -> Forward service (15 should show outbount policy you already did)

Background: Planeshift uses UDP (you did the rules for UDP, no?) and thus has independent outgoing and incoming packets (so you need a rule for both directions)
