I am sorry, perhaps I just do not understand your point, but I will risk trying to respond anyways, since no one has and it MAY be an interesting point of information.
First, and probably most obvious, there is a newbie help section of the forum.
http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?board=1.0 it is called "newbie help". Clever, eh?

Now if you mean that info gets buried there, by people posting and re-posting, yeah, some, but also note the stickys (stickies?)
Now about weird problems: Check out the other boards. There is technical problems before entering game, after entering game and OS specific issues, not to mention the Bugtracker, which has EVERY reported "weird problem".
Now for more information:
Planeshift.it : Gobs of information, expand the left sidebar and spend the day looking through all of that. Not really "weird problems" but always something Anyone advising should probably be familiar with, IMO
Then you have the PSwiki.
http://pswiki.xordan.com/index.php/Main_Page Again, GOBS of information.
Then you have IRC, on Freenode. You can start with #planeshift, Get help at #ps-help or GM help at #ps-gmtalk (I think, go to #planeshift and SHOULD be in the topic there, that is what I do every time).
Ok, now maybe you are reading this and thinking, yeah, but what about the "tourist" who has not decided whether they will stick around Yliakum for long, or just keep travelling? ("Hey dude, I DLed this game an hour ago, I dont want to read a lot yet, can you just tell me what to do?" ) Esp if they do not use IRC?
Well, for that I have the Yliakum Visitor's Bureau (see signature). It is not set up for InCharacter Stuff, but only the OutOfCharacter stuff that you may need to enjoy the game in the first few days of playing. My little rule of thumb is to show the stuff I wish I had known during my first 20-40 hours of playing, before I really wanted to dig into the settings and stuff.
Now, if after all that, you still can not find the information you need. well, Then I can not help you.

In closing, I think there is plenty of sources of information, and while diffeent people like different venues, they all are helpful, IMO.
Hope this helps....
