Dark Way and Black Flame
« on: December 13, 2008, 04:43:44 pm »
I've noticed that choosing Black Flame as your religion in character creation gives more levels in Dark Way than choosing Dakkru. But why? Isn't Dark Way closely related to the Dark Crystal? Why would Black Flame followers tap into their mortal enemy's power?

My question is, how would the Black Flame feel about followers using Dark Way?

That is an inconsistency that will be rectified in the future. BlackFlame people will tap into any power they can to forward their own plans, especially those of their mortal enemy.

Religions are only very loosely connected to magic ways. You can be stronger in Dark Way than other Ways, yet be a devout Talad follower, etc. it is the initial 'supposed' character mentality that Creation assumes of characters that sets the stats. A person that follows BF is assumed to be cruel at heart, and therefor would enjoy the pain and misery one can inflict with Dark Way.

Based on the settings, it should probably be Azure Way that is given the bonus.

Honestly, I would not attach any Way to any religion, giving no magic bonus. Makes more sense that way. Though I did not mention that in my last post, I have always thought the religion/Way connections did not make any sense.

It depends on a lore. On the other hand, usable magic shouldn't depend on the glyphs created by Talad. It's like saying that if Talad didn't create the glyphs, there would be no magic users in PlaneShift.

These lines suggest that glyphs aren't the only form of magic.

When Laanx left Galeran, his eyes sparkled with mystic fury, and his body glittered of the chaotic power of raw magic.

Galeran had the power to transmit his fanaticism to the most possessed of his followers.

I remember that there are about 3 "ways" of different magic, probably not glyph related (and not yet implemented)... One of them is "talking to potted plants". ;)

Reading the lore so far that seems to be exactly what it is saying. Perhaps the lore will expand and give other ways of magic but atm glyphs are indeed the only way we mere mortals can use magic.

Either way i don't think it matters really... i mean what is the difference if you get a few free levels anyways.  they are the lowest ones and hence the easiest and cheapest to train... :)
