No sound (WinXP)
« on: April 14, 2009, 10:59:02 pm »
There just isn't any sound here. Last time I played here (about a year or two before I reformatted) there was sound/music. It is enabled in Planeshift's setup. Though when I get in-game, all the sound is on, except Master Sound which is all the way down. When I move it up nothing happens.

it's been like that for a good while, not much you can do BUT as i've seen the static sound can go away if you say... open explorer or some other "heavy" app when this happens, after that it usualy clears up, if not right away then after awhile

Seems the better your computer runs, the worse the crackling. I'm screwed :P

I DID, however, find an alternate partial fix.

http://connect.creativelabs.com/openal/Downloads/Forms/AllItems.aspx

Get the installer for your machine, and then you should hear sound in PS in the main menu and in whatever area you load up in. However the ambient sounds don't play, and when you move to a new area the old music cuts out and the new music doesn't load. Casting spells works the first couple of times but when when I started casting ToD a few times a second to kill a trepor that also cut out and no other spell sounds worked.

However, the fact that this problem seems to have to do with the fact that the machine doesn't have OpenAL will hopefully put you guys onto a proper fix :)
There is an alternative, more probable theory that 9/11 was in fact caused by Hanson's 1997 smash hit 'MMMBop.'
