Beginning as a magic user
« on: February 01, 2011, 08:45:25 am »
Hi,

This game is a lot of fun so far, and I love the expansive scenery and feel to the whole thing.

My trouble is deciding which magic to use for my character. My character is ideally a wandering person from small backgrounds who uses magic. I was interested in the Blue Way and the Brown Way, but I am confused:

I would like to play somewhat "traditionally" as RPGs go. For example, kill monsters and go on quests while boosting my character. Looking at the spell lists that I can find [removed] however, it seems that there are only a couple of Blue or Brown spells available in the game. As far as direct damage spells for the first realm, Blue has one and Brown only has an indirect one. I would like to focus on one of these two paths, but if they don't have a good way of defeating enemies, I don't know how I could progress as an "adventurer," rather than doing more mundane quests.

If either of these Ways aren't good to focus on, do you think focusing on the Red Way would be wise? My new character has about equal will and intelligence, and could probably go either way, but 0 skill in Red so far.

Thank you very much in advance!

This sounds like a good question to ask in game from magic practicing characters who can share their experience. In general ways don't seem to be equally balanced in regards to the number of offensive, defensive and other types of spells. This is probably intentional and reflects specifics of each way.

Thanks for the quick reply, and that sounds like a good idea. After posting, I did notice Allive's magic guide, which is very helpful even if things have been updated since.

The link you posted is a spoiler.

It is not allowed to publish such in-game information outside the game.

Spells are developing as much as everything else. Not all spells are available to the general player yet. Many spells will possibly be revised, maybe even redesigned.

There is already a poll in this board about magic ways and people's interest in them. Some ways have been developed more than others, which will get equalized "soon™".

The truth is not all ways are equally implemented yet making some of them, the most popular actually, have more spells and glyphs. I hope this doesn't count as a spoiler but you'll find out brown way has more than one direct damage spell as well as other spells implemented. As for blue way its the least implemented, you won't be able to deal much damage with it since it actually has only one working spell available unless you posses a water glyph that is really rare in the game and is given only as reward in GM events and allows you to use more spells. I wanted my character to be skilled in blue way so i'm training it anyway... i noticed from someone that got blue way to 100 that the one spell that is available can be actually useful at such a level.
If you try red way you will certainly find out there are more spells. But brown way has spells too :)

How very funny is it to see that the info on the Nemesis is fully copied from our site (which is only for registered users btw). Very funny that Vv after i gave him access to our site, copied stuff like "your leader this and this" and "magic ways work like this and this" completely, HAHAHAHA  ;D

Thank you for all the help, and sorry about the spoiler link  :-[. It seems like Red and Dark both have a decent amount of spells so I might start over with a character for them.

You probably mean apprentice in more than one magic circle. Yes, it's possible. But don't mistake circles for ways. Ways represent different types of magic, while circles are just political groups build around practicing those ways. Even if some restrictions are imposed by circles, it doesn't mean they are mirrored by any restrictions in the essence of the ways. I'd even say some mages are staying out of circles and their politics for various reasons, practicing and researching all ways. However currently there are practically no out of circles trainers implemented in the game, so one is de facto bound to using circles and their trainers.

Yes.

You can even become an adept in multiple ways - which entails both the completion of quests that give you the title of apprentice or adept, and actual skill training which is required for adept status.

Browns first direct-Damage is at realm 2, which is not actually that hard to accomplish as the first Brown Way spell is a quick-casting one that doesnt really take too much mana. So if Brown is your thing, its not a bad way.

(in fact, Maulbernauts get whittled down pretty quick once you get the max damage on Flying Stones)

Stone Fist works even better against them.

Not really, especially not if you're training. It does barely more damage on a slower cast time.

Around 1.5 times more damage, and pretty fast at high levels. At lower levels Flying Stones may be better.  For me both of them are not a good way to train anyway, since I need higher realm spells. But it's good for hunting.
