hey guys, since I can no longer contribute to testing of PS on PPC-macs,
here is some problems and inconveniences I encountered after a fresh install and corresponding solutions.

I think this could be like a user-maintained fix-repository, to lift some strain from the moderators, testers and developers.
One place to go after you have read the read me and the guide and been to http://www.planeshift.caarrie.org/.
I would be glad to have others contribute, I could integrate replies into the list below for consistency of method.

PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS
--------------------------------------

HARDWARE INDEPENDENT (for regularly updating Leopard- and maybe Tiger users)

Problem 0: Where is my settings folder?
Solution 0: in your home folder (the one with your user-name) and then navigate to "Library" --> "Application Support" --> "PlaneShift",
if that folder does not exist you should create it.

P1: I want to use PlaneShift from a "Standard" Account
S1: You need to change permissions for your PS install-directory folder and the settings folder (see Problem 0):
select folder --> context-menu: "Get Info" --> "Sharing & Permissions" --> click on lock-symbol and type in admin name and password --> click on plus symbol, choose username of standard account and click "Select" --> set permission to "Read and Write" --> click on gear symbol and select "Apply to enclosed items", wait --> click on lock again.

P2: I cannot run the updater
S2: run psupdater_static from terminal OR visit http://www.planeshift.caarrie.org/updater.html

P3: Game crashes repeatedly on load
S3: in-game go to options screen and reduce the frame cap to 60 or 70 FPS (frames per second)
(did this help you? feedback on this would be helpful for the mac-using PS community)


HARDWARE DEPENDENT (also for regularly updating Leopard- and maybe Tiger users)

P4: Text renders badly in-game (i.e. there seem to be missing vertical lines)
S4[*1]: launch pssetup: set Screen to 1280*800, font-scaling to 150% and texture-downsampling to 1/1
(Not working: temporary effects by playing around with these settings, problems reappear)

P5: Maps do not work properly
S5[*2]: Set texture downsampling to 1/2 or futher to the right

also if you cant find your logs you can use http://planeshift.caarrie.org/PS%20logs%20locator.zip which will open the folder that contains your logs for you.

For users on the first generation macbook AFTER leopard was released you NEED to set texture downsampling to 1/2 or futher to the right to make sure ALL maps work, this is for those that have the intel GMA 3100 graphics card.

for your text renders badly have you tried the fix for texture compression?

Hi Caarrie,

I tried the texture compression fix and so far it did not prevent the bad text rendering.

After some more playing I have noticed the fix for *1 is not that great either, it seems somewhat inconsistent,
changing the size of the windows and enabling font-scaling in-game can help and then some time later
the font goes bad again for no clear reason, I will try out some more...

I can confirm that this problem also happens with my late 2007 Macbook Pro, latest Leopard version (10.5.6 ATM, I think), NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 256MB of GDDR3 SDRAM, 4GB system RAM. Rest of the system specs are here, except for having 4GB of RAM instead of 2, and a 320GB 7200 RPM HD. Will test this fix later tonight to see if it works.

EDIT: solution does not work on my system.

I have the bad text rendering issue really bad on an MBP 17" 3.06 running 10.5.8.  Also have had the issue on 10.5.5-10.5.7 and in Tiger, on different Macs, and all regardless of freshness of the installation (including OS).
