chat window help

When you are playing online, sometime I will get messages from my opponent but I will will only see a small blob on the top right end of the screen with the subject and then it is gone. How do I read the message and what about replying? I tried a bunch of steps but except for X and O keys nothing is working. Can anyone tell me how to read the stp

Try <Enter> instead, this will open chat window. If you don't see the needed tab, then uncheck "basic chat window" in options.
