updates needed or not?
« on: January 05, 2010, 12:17:00 am »
Hi I just installed PlaneShift .05 on my Ubuntu computer.  When I try to login it tells me I have the wrong version and to run the updater.  But the updater tells me no new files are needed!  It's a catch-22, what do I do?

Thanks for any help!

Run updater as root?

Thanks, but nothing changed when I ran it as root.

Try as root

./pslaunch -repair

It may take a long time.

I did as you suggested, Rigwyn.  It did not take long, just about a minute, then it announced that nothing needed updating.  Tried to start psclient again, got the same error upon logging in.

I did notice that the ./pslaunch - repair method started a different version of the updater (2.0) whereas when I try psupdater it says version 1.1. Interesting.

I don't think psupdater is part of the new version .. at least I dont have that in my directory.

Did you try moving the old installation, and then reinstalling fresh  ?
Or Just reinstalling to a new directory

The PS updater is grouped in to pslaunch.exe if you run that it will tell you if there are any needed updates, and using repair will check the integrity of your files.

I tried sudo ./pslaunch in terminal and got the following errors:

I have been trying the said fixes for psclient reporting needs update but there appear to be no updates that it can find and I still get, you are running the wrong version run updater. Please help.

Thanks for the bump, Theball.

I tried reinstalling from scratch to no avail.  Then  I gave up and went and played eternal lands instead.  But I'd like to play Planeshift, if I only could.

Try removing your existing installation of PlaneShift (make sure to remove all files and folders after de-installation) and try a fresh download & install of the new 0.5.1 client:
http://www.planeshift.it/download.html

Hopefully this fixes your issue.
