still frozen
« on: March 11, 2010, 01:50:44 am »
Hi

I posted this a while a go but still having problems.

Three of my chatos are now stuck Scianlassair Fuiseog Fiain Eireball and Asora lani.
Fiain Eireball is just in sight The tent village from city probably at the point where another area loads.  But not on the loading screen it self. I have tried the die command but it keeps freezing before I can type. I have also tried ‘the click to it says not responding’ trick and minimizing and pulling it up, neater helped I also tried restarting the game it did not work either. I am un able to play this chartor because of this.

The second Scianlassair Fuiseog initially killed and went through the deth realm to get rid of the problem. Other areas out side of the city are not affected by this problem. I was trying to navaggate back to oja when I came apon the same area and and have the same problem. I tried the die command and again nothing. I have als tryedthe clicking trick again and the minamising and the re maxing one as well. Again nothing. Closing and re opening it also dosent work eather.

The third is Asora Lani. After the two inshal problems I avoid going out of the city but then I went out and found my way to the Kran village. Exploring on the ground leaval was fine exepec when I went up in to the rock fort thing it froze I tried the tricks and then restarted it. The game came up with a loading screan for the village witch I did not insaly see when I went up. I tried the clicking, the resizing the window, using the die command agisan nothing. when the  die comand worked hear but i fear if i go abck the same thing will hapen. the problem is verchaly the same one i hade with Scianlassair Fuiseog

Hi.

on the road two of my character Scianlassair Fuiseog, and Fiain Eireball, are stuck on the road just in sight or out side of the village it, non responsive and very sluggish when it dose respond takes to a minute a ½ minute when it does for one command. I had my character  sit. My other two charters work fine but they are in the city.
Also this may or may not be related. Some time it frees up but then clears after a minute and some times I have to restart the program, the task manger say it is running but when I exit it out using the close button ti gives me an not responding message and ask if I want to report it or not. It  does not hapen with my two other character that are in the city and the death realm. Also after it targeting doesn't work some time after it freezes Restarting the program fixes this too.
I ran repair twice and it found no files damage or broken.

i honestly dont know how much help this will be but i have XP too so,
when the game freazes up for me i just click the window a bunch of times, until the not responding appears, then click a few more times and it will unfreaze,
also when it freazes up in a loading screen you can do the same thing and it works, but somtimes cosing the window down to the toolbar will make it load, so it will be loaded when the window opens back up, but the third thing for loading screen freaze i have to do somtimes, is do the clicking thing, then i have to click the very top of the window, and the loading bar goes further up with every click at the top...its weird but it works for me..

ot so unusual, I know the way you try to solve it, Earowo - I try the same when everything seems to freeze... also, minimizeing and re-maxing the window helps a couple times - first you click til it says "not responding", then you click more, you get a very short black screen and bang, back you are...
Sometimes I have the impression as if the sysrem treies to do something apart from PS (which it should not) - except for Firewalls and Antivirus stuff I shut down all other progs when I run PS, since I have the same low RAM (0.5 GB) as you do, and this is LOW...

I hope I can get me a 1 GB RAM-bar this month, I'll report if that improves the performance significantly (which I assume).

{end}

Thanks

P.S. again if there is some where better to post this let me know.

when you have Planeshift launcher open click the settings button and then go to graphics  - there should be an option to uncheck a box for it

Monala arches a brow. "Wait, so eatin' is like..." she shakes her head. "Er, nevermind."

Also, you have 0.5 GB RAM - I had the same until Monday... it can work, but you will be slow. Means, you should reduce your graphic options to the minimum (also in the PSlaunch menu). See if then you are still frozen... also, when frozen, does your window tell you "not responding"? Or does the game just crash?

I am also suffering "frozen" episodes.  I'm running v. 05.2.1.
All graphics are set "low", no VBO on, deleted the shadercache.
Have windowsXP Intel Pentium 2.80 GHz, ATI Catalyst Legacy Display Driver v. 9.11, 1 GB RAM.
The game crashes, I have clicked on the screne and sometimes it seems to "reboot" and it reconnects, or does nothing, sometimes it says "not responding"....  Several times I've had to use the task manager in order to close the game.
  I need help too!
my name is Sanrai ;)

that sounds familiar, Sadie...

I would recommend the following...
with your RAM, close all other applications before running PS. Also, be sure your Settings allow for enough virtual RAM (take a look at your system configuration...) - this tends to be a problem.
If you freeze (especially with "not responding" in the window header), more often than not, some patience will help - your PC is simply aching under the amount of data. If it gets too much, adding RAM will be the only real possibility (as I know since monday, it truly helps...)

Thanks, Shoraal, but I don't mess with my 'puter...  I do close all my other windows/programs...... The clicking on the window helps some. I would love to add RAM....but can't just yet.  Guess it's a thing to live with...eh?

I think I had the same problem a few minutes ago.

I'm back to PS after many months of absense and already realized that the perfomance has gone downhill big time since my last visit. :(
(Kinda sad that I can play Far Cry and Fahrenheit on nearly full settings, but not the graphic-wise way more "oldshool" PS on low settings.  But that's another story...)

This problem was extreme: I was in the Arena to search for a certain NPC (for a quest). While walking up some stairs the sound suddenly stopped and everything just "froze". Two seconds later the sound started and I was able to slowly (and I mean fucking slowly) move the mouse, but only for one second. Then it stopped again. The same thing kept happening: 2 seconds nothing, 1 second sound and slow mouse movement.

At the same time moving my character was impossible at all. Restarting PS didn't help, neither anything else I tried.

In the end I managed to enter /kill after 10 minutes of work to get the Chat window and entering the command.
The second I was in DR everything worked smoothly again.

Now I have a quest I can't complete without running the risk of being stuck again - and maybe unable to escape next time. :(

there was a bug related to effects that caused rather long lockups. it's already fixed on trunk, however it's not in the current release client.
because this bug is related to effects, it's more probable to occur in the arena as there are many players casting spells.
therefore compiling your client from the most up to date source might fix your problem.

additionally make sure the client isn't compiling shaders during the lockups. if it does, you can see this in the console output. this would be a one-time problem as shaders are only compiled once and then cached, so you'd only have the slowdown the first time you encounter the related object/area(given you have the loader cache enabled)
