Animal parts 300Q
« on: July 01, 2010, 09:21:56 am »
OK, so Zon gave em this idea in gossip today

What if animal part- loots could have Quality? i mean it would be realistic, and also very interesting, because good hunetrs can get 300Q parts, because they hunt well, and they are experienced to loot stuff from dead things, everything else has quality....Food.....Stocks......Weapons...ets...etc

Why not animal parts? it would make a lot of sense

Also about the ores, they should also have quality, going up through mining training is a little useless for now, but why dont they make it so that the ores have quality? it would make sense also, as an elite miner would easily get ore AND have it looking good and mined- well

And i really relaly wish that looting is normal as the 4.3 one, now it sucks and crafting an hammering is still the ebst way to gain mney.

Hehehe  . Yep. Gossip actually came up with something good.

Well for my idea of quality 300 is that player would need to train in a skill. Maybe called hunting? The best hunters should be able to take out parts much better quality than the others. I am pretty sure PS has already thought of this ;P. But yeah. My idea

Edit: And I am thinking it would also depend on the weapon type used, where you would hit it, the weather the terrain, the quality of the living creature (if it is sick or not), etc.

Edit 2: I guess I will add that this should also be suggested in herbs that can be picked in game. Farmers and other jobs (which obviously are not yet implemented) should be able to pick-up herbs at better quality than others. Right now there are no market for herbs. People can just pick all of them up and sell it. Even travellers could just pick them up randomly.

This might be related to my feature request PS#4572 - Should body part loot rate depend on attack stance?

I'm not quite sure why animal parts should have different qualities (I just assume different sell prices?), but I foresee a number of problems here:

  • You'd have to discern between damageable and durable animal parts. A rat eye is probably a delicate thing and requires skill to pop. A lump of lard on the other hand would probably be rather unimpressed by how brutally you butchered the Tefusang .
  • Let's say you max your Hunter skill (or by whatever loot quality is calculated). Does that mean, you'd only loot q300 Ulbernaut hides? Seems rather unlikely that these beasts will always have perfect, undamaged pelts until the moment you spa with them (though I most admit now that I now imagine ulbernauts showering under a waterfall, shampooing their fur while wearing a pink bath cap).
  • When animal parts have different qualities, your inventory slots will quickly fill up with small sized stacks.
