I am porting myself away from windows and used to play Ultima Online for years and am hoping to find a similar MMORPG to enjoy on a Linux platform
I like the idea of porting oneself :-)
you can certainly test it, it\'s good for that and I reckon it\'s a good experience anyway. besides, by the time it gets playable, would you rather be totally clueless if you had chosen not to play it yet?
the downloadable distro didn\'t work for me, if you can\'t make it work either, you would have to compile your own crystal space and cel and, of course, planeshift.
crystal space is a little tricky cause you need to get a correct cvs snapshot, 9th April 2003 works for me.
get same date cel to be sure, although it seems it\'s not that crucial.
checkout cvs version of planeshift, you need to get the correct branch, I use MB010.
compile and install crystal space, set environment variable CRYSTAL to where it got installed to (by default /usr/local/crystal)
compile and install cel, if it gets installed elsewhere than crystal space, you should set CEL env variable.
compile planeshift, if it fails to link complaining of numerous c++ish unresolved symbols, you need to remove out/linuxx86/psaws.o and out/linuxx86/pscomp.o \"jam\" again.
then there\'s turn to -relight and ./updater, which you can find info on the forum I believe.
a good doc on using CVS is available on sourceforge.net, good luck!
