windows 7 installation problem(SOLVED!)
« on: August 13, 2010, 07:25:57 pm »
0.5.4 won't install on windows 7. It takes a min for the consent page to come up, the process then dwindles around for 10 or 20 secs and then exists. Tried running using admin and also comp mode in windows xp sp2 and vista. I did google btw. Any Ideas? would 0.5.3 work?

Installing 0.5.3 and update could be an option. Also, make sure your downloaded file is not corrupt (keyword is "md5 sum")

you cannot update from 0.5.3 anymore

maybe try redownloading 0.5.4 as Sen stated and make sure you got the right version (e.g. if you have 64 bit windows, get the 64 bit client)

anyway, I just installed 0.5.4 yesterday on a windows 7 professional 64bit without any issues

Okay, I installed virtual box with a minimal windows xp, used hardware accel in 2D and 3D and managed to get the thing installed. I copied the installed version back to may vista and am currently using --repair to get things repaired. A lot needs downloading! I'll keep you updated and if I come up with anything good I'll zip it all up and put it somewhere.

Okay, solved, still don't know why the installer wont run, but I got the game working after I copied it from the virtualbox xp. The problem was that I had the crystalspace environment variable set. I repaired, downloaded loads (I think bout a gig) over my 128kb the stuff a few times, nothing happened.  but it worked as soon as I removed the variable.
