you're using pulseaudio as default audio device, however it appears it isn't configured properly.
if you're actually using pulse, check your config files
if you don't use pulseaudio, edit ~/.alsoftrc
the related line is "drivers=...", e.g. drivers=alsa to use alsa instead

if you enabled fullscreen mode, make sure that the resolution you chose is actually supported by your x server. it won't work if it isn't

xomrk, do you get the ping time of the game server you choose to access or is it saying Failed; or something like that? My thought is that you may not be able to access the game server. When that happens to me in X on Fedora 13 the normal steps are (in a terminal window) to:

ps -x|grep ps

(Find the psclient job number)

kill <job number>

That should have the effect of killing the PS Client in your X window. If that does not have the effect of killing the pslaunch it would be surprising to me. You can then check for the server again a little later and repeat the process if needed. Should the server be unavailable after more than 10 minutes then the route is suspect.

If that, by chance,is not the same problem you are up against, then at least this technique may be useful for those in the same boat as myself.

It would be interesting, if you could check, that there is a route to the game server available to you.
