I'm looking at a new laptop and the best performance at decent price seems to be with Intel dual cores.  However, they usually have "integrated graphics"-- in the newer ones the GPU is in the same chip as the CPU.  What this means is going with lower-speed AMD CPUs for the sake of better graphics-- except that I don't know if the integrated Intel graphics (esp. on the i3 350M) is maybe good enough.

So, if you have an Intel i3 350M (or even a T4500) and are running PlaneShift, please post your experience.

Thanks,
Xarthen

for the i3, I've googled a bit 'cause I was curious about too, and I've seen this: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/273909-28-core-t6600-330m-350m-430m#t2128716

There you go, I5-430M processor, [...] I'm not a big gamer, but i played some games on this computer just to test out the Intel HD integrated graphics, and i was blown away. I can play new games like mass effect 2, cryis (low res), and torchlight (<--60FPS!) with no problem at all.

 and again : http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Intel-Core-i3-i5-i7-Processors-Arrandale.25085.0.html

An especially CPU intensive strategy game, Supreme Commander, was applied because of the vast maps with numerous AI units [...]
Merely the i3 CPU generally lagged behind a bit. Therefore, a CPU starting at Core i5-430M and up should be recommendable for games.

 seems like you don't have Intel stuff, Sir Roled  :whistling:

P.S.: I really appreciate the positive attitude in your posts... at least most of them  :P

I run PS on a Dell d620 with an intel graphic card in it on Ubuntu 10.04 (i915 driver). Works a bit slow at times but still OK if not too many objects in the neighborhood.

Cheers,

I ended up going with an AMD-based machine with ATI Radeon 4250.  Inexpensive, but it can run PS quite well based on a first trial on Windows.  Haven't got PS to work on ubuntu yet, and I just wiped windows off this thing.  Vastly improved performance on everything else, so hopefully that will be true of PS as well.

Well, it might work even with intel GMA HD GPUs of the i-Core series.

Still, I would have recommended you Nvidia chipsets, even mobile; their drivers are more reilable, especially under Linux.

Lol, you think you'll get good performance out of ATI cards on Linux.

You're cute.

Just a followup - once I set edited the screen resolution in the config file, all went well.  PlaneShift runs very nicely on this configuration.
