pslauncher brings up black window and crashes immediately

When I try to launch PlaneShift from the Applications menu or the shortcut it brings up a black window which vanishes in almost a second. No error messages there. I tried pslaunch --console from the terminal and the updater finished successfully. I tried launching pslaunch from the terminal and it gives out many errors.

My first idea is as always to try a pslaunch --repair. My second thought is that pulse audio is doing something wrong again and should be kicked from a system, but that might not be true for newer versions of it  ;)
.....also a saddle that won't pinch the tail. One day!

I did a pslaunch --repair, all files passed the check. Pulse audio does have problems in general but would pulse audio on its own be able to crash the whole game? I imagine that it would only leave me without sound.

Maybe someone who knows more than me reads this thread soon, though.

I have similar if not exact problems.. I run the updater and it says psclient needs updating.. it updates (psclient isn't running in command console while it's updating). i try running the game, in the command console i see pslaunch.exe running, when i hit play i see psclient run but then it vanishes and so does pslaunch shortly after.

i check a error log and i found:

yea, i tried again to notice and after letting it update psclient.exe i tried pressing play. i noticed once psclient comes up in process list in command console i see the black screen which closes almost immediately.. so, im guessing that something's wrong with the psclient that the update server is distributing or it's distributing the right file but it's failing to do something with psclient after it downloads.. but im just a newbie. just a guess.

i really really hope i get it working before i work in the next 12 hours.

i updated yet again except this time i went into program files and tried opening psclient instead of pslaunch and i noticed everytime after i use the updater to get psclient and try to play planeshift once i see that little black screen briefly after hitting the play button psclient is deleted out of the program files automatically.

it's deleting itself after every time i try to run planeshift..
which is why it is letting me repeatedly try to update it through the repair option in the main ps interface.
i hope this is insightful for someone with the skills to fix this issue..

 because i know it isn't my drivers or something crazy.. i play many games on this pc. i don't have but 2 installed right now but i know my pc is working. it always has worked. and i updated my gpu drivers and got the latest catalyst. it didn't help.

btw im using xp home ed service pack 2, 3ghz p4 processor with 2 threads and 2 mb l2 cache, x800 single gpu, 2gb ram, plenty of harddrive space, i have a fairly new sound card i know that work.

i doubled up on checking that i made this a trusted program with full access in my firewall & security policy. That's not an issue.

I can't imagine why PSclient is deleting itself after everytime i try to play. I haven't even got to setup my first character yet :(

im going to try a reinstall without running the repair console any. maybe ill get lucky?

my end of the trouble was fixed.. turns out my anti virus quarantined psClient as a backdoor. sorry for the trouble. thanks again!
