how to worship the black flame

How would one go about playing a character that worships the Black Flame?  And, relatedly, is there a guild of characters that worship the black flame?

Black flame is like fight club. First rule is you do not talk about Black Flame. That in itself lends itself to difficulty in finding other Black Flame members. Perhaps you should hang around the Black Flame temple, find some worshippers that way?

Any of your good friends or enemies can be a Black Flame follower, but you will never discover it.. and if you do both you and the Black Flame follower will surely die (true death). As Ebonwumon said: You do NOT talk about the Black Flame. The BF followers are not organised like other religions. They have no priests, regular meetings and gatherings. They infiltrate all parts of society to slowly corrupt it. For all we know even Sharven or the Octarch might be one of them..

So, how to worship the Black Flame? Do it in uttermost secrecy, not necessarily by praying or ceremonies, but in all your actions. By infiltrating other religions, political societies, merchants and mercenaries. Trick them into doing the biddings of the Black Flame, without them knowing that they do so. The Black Flames goal is total destruction of Yliakum, not by raising an army to do the work, but by pitting other armies against each other. Luring friends to become enemies, lovers to become haters and family members to betray each other.

Back in the days when I was a GM we killed off a character who was openly Black Flame. The player was asked to delete the character, as he was poisoned by other BF members.

Just to clarify what katu said, yes, even Sharven or the Octarch could be Black Flame, but no one would ever openly THINK that, either. The black flame is a bedtime story, tales of evil that you tell your children to scare them into sleep, but not ones that you talk to adults about. However, most people would have just enough of an inkling that it might, just maybe, exist somewhere, and the risk of you dying a horrible true death is just too great to talk about it, so you don't.

So no one, Black Flame or otherwise, talks about Black Flame.

It's supposed to be like that. Theoretically, yes you could infiltrate the Black Flame, but that would mean that the Black Flame followers were doing a pretty bad job of being Black Flame followers.

since to become black flame you have to let the whisper into your head, which either converts you or drives you insane, I doubt you could infiltrate the BF. Even if you didnt let it in, other BF people would probably be told by the whisper that you aren't for real and kill you.

Yes, and it has been done in the past. The infiltrator eventually paid for it with perma-death yet not before much of its secrets were passed along to a group working to expose the BF. It is an RP which has been going since before my arrival to Planeshift. It was my fortune (or perhaps one of my characters' ultimate misfortune) to have stumbled across it. Time will tell...
