infiltrating cities (extending the hydlaa sewer map)
« on: November 15, 2011, 09:04:52 pm »
let's face it. there's a definite criminal element to Yliakum society. Some characters are actually renowned for their villainous ways. Does it make sense for the vigilant city gaurds who are always at their posts to let allow passage to these well known thugs? mmmm... no.

So there should be a secondary, covert way of entering and exiting the city. Already there exists an extensive sewer system under Hydlaa, but if you look at a map of the sewer, it's easy to see that it is a closed system. Uhhh, that's irrational. All that waste needs to flow somewhere. A closed system would just fill up over time and eventually overflow. Gross.

So, in the name of efficiency, let's kill two kikiri's with one stone and extend the sewer map to include an exit, where the sewage empties out into some nearby body of water. This will also allow villainous characters a covert way of entering and leaving the city undetected.

Such way exists, though indeed only the least recommendable characters know it.

soo.. yer either talking about a black flame thing, or killing ones self and entering through the DR.

well, not every villain is a black flamer, and the DR trick is a sore spot for many players.

also my point about the sewer systems filling up over time is still valid if there is no exit.

No no no, a perfectly in-character way in, no DR trick (I suppose you're never sure where you'll end up when you leave the Death Realm right?).
Not every vilain is a Black Flamer... yeah, gotta keep some privileges for the evilest of evils!

Well I can't imagine why a sewer system wouldn't lead outside the city, that would be filthy and stinky... It probably connects to a river, preferably a large one if able engineers designed it. And the Vigesimi office probably have plans of the sewers (and surely people that work down there) so... If a passage there is, a secret one it is.

I'd suppose they would hook it up to a river  that leads off the edge of the stalactite or into burial wells.

Also there is a covert way OUT of the city yes, involves some tricky jumping and going out of map, but unless you're a klyros with a guard-change schedule or the proud owner of a grappling hook, there really isn't a secret way in that I at least know of.

Well, without even giving a simple option of a rope and a hook method, making secret tunnels sounds even less implementable. Enabling climbing and / or climbable tools (ropes, ladders etc.) would make the game much more interesting already. By the way, there is a "river" which goes under the city, but it's made of void now, so you can't really use it.

i think this further begs the question, will it ever be possible to completely bypass Hydlaa by walking around the city? As it stands there are arbitrary invisible walls keeping us from doing so...

Just RP walking around the city ( yes, cut through so you can get from one road to another ). This is just a game limitation and should be ignored. As for getting a criminal into a city in an IC way, you could say that they hid in a merchant's fur cart or something.

As for swimming through the sewers, would your character really swim in stale piss and soggy shit? ( there are no showers, you know ) This is especially problematic for the Enki race.

and not only those you would end up in void trying to do it :)

Void was filled in Atomic Blue I've heard. It used to be called "the sea of glue". One could travel through it with jumping (since it was sticky), and it was even possible to reach the dome itself (the most experienced explorers managed even to get to the outside of the dome like that and climb on the very top  ;D). But with the change in the engine it became void, and travel through it requires flying now. So let's wait for levitation rather :D
