I've always thought description length was something sort of up in the air. It depends on your preferences, really. Personally, I like walking up to a character and seeing a description that's chalk full of details, because that's the way I like my books, long and complex. Granted, this can be bad for someone who maybe isn't a native english speaker or who doesn't read at 100+ million miles per hour, so my solution has always been to just keep a short "currents" tab at the top for folks that don't want to go through the entirety of the description. I find this works out pretty well for both sides of the fence, as it were.
