But you\'d need a lot of energy to get a beam of light to harm, so that would mean more mana. Wouldn\'t it make more sense to use a spell of the Red way called \"Ray of fire\" or whatever?

It\'s a calculated guess because to make a harmful ray of light takes much more energy than having a beam of fire from the red way (like a fireball stretched thin).

Meh, this thread should have died ages ago. Haven\'t we reached the conclusion that laser if implemented should be crystal way?

one question Draklar, how long (in seconds) does it take for you to go blind by looking at the sun?? multiply that answer with 10^191053 and you have the mana cost.. simple, isn\'t it?

karakth, my calculated guess:
giving birth to a creature just by using magic (Brown Way) should take much more energy than forming a powerful and simply chaotic fireball.
Does it mean that many spells in Brown Way are useless?

Or maybe it\'s all about the size of incantation, in which case all
laser, firebolt and small creature will use about same amount of mana?

Lasers are not light.  They are a device that produces light.  Light is electromagnetic radiation just like radio waves, microwaves, and all of the other  waves like x-rays, gamma rays, and heat in the form of infrared radiation.  Lasers produce a very monotonic light that is also coherent.    They don\'t necessarily burn through things unless the light is focused to a single point with a lens.  Recent developments in lasers have produces lasers that are powerful enough to burn through things without needing the lens.  But even then, they are absolutely huge.  Not to be confused with something you could actually carry.
