Language Options
« on: November 18, 2013, 05:13:02 am »
In order to speak Enkien on Kull, I have to minimize and scroll through a page, or visit a book I have in-game. But that is time-consuming in roleplay and limited. Could we have an icon with language information and a translation table, similar perhaps to the ones on the wiki?

Or, could we have a chat option to switch languages automatically? This is far more complex, but it's an idea.

Thanks!

maybe just a loadable word filter would do so you could load up enki and everything you type gets changed to its enki equivalent, and vice versa.

There is already a "bad words" filter with local translation tables which you can edit: options/chat.xml in your user account's application data area.

It may just be a hazzle to activate or deactivate it "quickly".

I played another game that enabled you to select which language you wished to speak. To those who were of a race that would understand that language, the text would show up in ordinary, readable english. To those who were of a race that would not know it, it would be scrambled.

At first this seemed interesting. You could say something in a crowded room and only certain folks would understand it. Sadly when everyone did this, most of the text you saw on the screen was jibberish.

I'm not sure if you are talking about a complete translation like what I described or just the replacement of some common words - to give your writing a little flavor. The way I see it, if you need a book to encode what you are writing, then others will need a book to decode it. That sounds like a pain in the ass for everyone, personally, but who knows, maybe its one of those enjoyable sacrifices or "labor of love".

I have a tiny brain and can't handle people smothering their chat with words I don't know and can't guess.  ;D
