A guide to Harns
« on: January 16, 2014, 01:17:35 pm »
So one of the most common questions that people get that identifies new players is 'Where is Harnquist's?"

Well this is all well and good for identifying them so people can help them, I wonder about the people that don't ask because the as scared too (I was in this camp). Furthermore it leads to OOC guidance. I didn't ask and ended up almost quitting the game after 10 minutes of "This is stupid" and "What is occurring?" but luckily I ran into some pretty rocking people without getting Harnquist his apples.

So I guess my idea is this: Have an NPC outside the tutorial that you present something to (given at the completion of it) that produces a pet or something for the play to follow down to the plaza and Harns. I'd say the NPC themselves, but what happens if a new play comes out while they are escorting someone else?

Funny, the first time I played this game, I went the wrong way when I came out of the tutorial. I saw one of the doorways leading out of Hydlaa and proceeded out into the wilderness - thinking that Hydlaa was tutorial land. I was lost for at least a week or two and at times saw absolutely nobody. To make it worse, adaptive viewing distance was set so short that all the landmarks and mountains kept disappearing xD

I was probably lucky enough to have started when 50 was a minimum number of players, and there was only half a road between Hydlaa and Akkaio (all of Ojaveda in these times), so I simply had to meet anyone. Still, I tried to use my little experience from single-player RPGs (in fact, only Piranha Bytes' "Gothic"), look around, ask and listen to NPCs. I spawned near Kada-El's for the first time. But finding Harnquist's forge was not hard. Well, the forge was a lot smaller then.

The current generation is not used anymore to open their eyes and ears, their intellectual horizon seems to end at the smartphone display... ;D

Sorry, but that was just too inviting.

Don't you already get a Hydlaa map in your "Welcome bag" in the Tutorial? Well, you don't see a pointer with your position. But hey, you don't see any on a city map made of paper either. And Hydlaa is small. If you don't have the patience to take a week to get to know it, you may be playing the wrong game...
