tip jars
« on: May 04, 2014, 05:20:51 pm »
Would it be possible to get tip jars for players to use when performing or bar tending? Some thing that someone could deposit tria into but not be removed except by the person guarding it?

That's a great idea! Right now, it doesn't seem like there are any benefits to playing musical instruments in PS, but that would really add more of a purpose to them. It would also make the cities more realistic by adding more street performers, and it makes a lot of RP sense, too!

A Theft-proof tip jar?

This is just my opinion, but I think the theft-proof part breaks realism. In real life, what's to stop some jerk from coming along and tearing that little tin cup out of the hands of some blind, flute playing vagabond and scattering them all over the ground?

A community accessible container that people deposit and withdraw from sounds more like how a hat on the ground or beggar's cup might work.

Some will argue that people could just run by and hit a shortcut that targets the next item and picks it up ( both hat AND coins) with one click.  Well, my argument to that is doing that without any kind of RP and without giving the victim a chance to react and respond is god-modding and warrants either a kind lesson in how to role play a thief, or a public shaming on the forums for those who know better.

With the way the current game economy is, you can loot or craft stuff that's worth thousands of tria ( tens of thousands if strong), or you could try to swipe a few circles from a minstrel. For those who are seriously gaming for tria and have no interest in RP, it makes no sense to waste their time looting the lute guy.

New players sometimes have sticky fingers and those who do will often opt for the snatch all and run method thoughtlessly. However, as an approximation, you could try using an unguarded sack on the ground and other players can put in food. The food should be fairly lightweight so it will take a while to fill the sack and after the performance it can be sold for tria or RPed as your dinner.

So sing for your carrots! er... bread. ;)

After the dev's meeting, it looks as though the sack or crate will have to do and coin thrown onto the stage.

Please tip the help at the RCD. That is their only income.

A friend of mine once simply used a helm for this and indeed got some donations.

Keep in mind you can /rotate your "hat" by 180° and drop some (guarded) coins to make it look less empty (e.g. if you /pickup donations before strangers possibly do, but I don't think that is likely to happen).

What if there was a tip jar item, but someone really wanted to, they could steal from it? It could be like any other container item, but maybe you could be able to see some of the coins in it.

Seriously? As I was working in the Den it was normal and common to get tip. Didn't need a container for that. People just gave always a bit more tria, when exchanging the mug, liqour, beer, wine...whatever. So why need a tip jar? :D

Thinking of the entertainers. If you don't tip the bartender you might have some extras in your drink or food. ;)
