Free beta game or not.....
« on: June 17, 2003, 04:24:38 am »
Yeah sure it\'s a free game and we should\'nt complain because it is only in beta stages.  So I am not complaining but merely expressing my view on my experiences.

1)  The FPS and lag is so bad that I was able to move a few steps once every 2 minutes and I was able to type a couple words every 2 or 3 minutes.

2)  It took me about 2 days to connect.

3)  Did I mention the lag?

There is nothing wrong with releasing a beta but usually it has been programmer tested for a bit before the beta gets released.  This way you can fix minor and devestating problems such as database errors, etc.

I have never been in game programming but I have been in computer programming a few years and there are things that we can fix that will at least let the user log in, create an account, etc.  Man this was the most frustrating experience in my life!

Another issue.  The servers are where?  A majority of users are from the U.K. and U.S.A. most times so why would you have the server thousands of miles away from the nearest border of either country knowing that those two countries would be your biggest hitters?  The farther away, the more lag in most cases, especially dial-up users.

hey, how about reading before you post? this is not even close to being a beta game, and all of those have been talked about in other topics

This isn\'t a Beta game.  it\'s a \"Pre-Alpha\" Game (at BEST).  It\'s very, very incomplete, and as is very nicely explained in detail elsewhere, the current state of the game in no way represents what or how the game will finally turn out.  It\'s a good idea to read up on what you are going to complain about (or point out) before you do, or else you get a bad case of terminal F.I.M.S. (foot-in-mouth-syndrome).

Then they should not have it listed on gamespot\'s \"Beta\" list if it is not beta.

read happypenguin.org or preferably the projets site ( http://www.planeshist.it ), you can\'t think every single game-page gets it right ...plus, does gamespot even have a \"pre-alpha\"? i always thought that win*-players needed to get through a lot of pain to even get a glimpse of the beta, so alpha stages and below most probably aren\'t even considered on win*-gaming pages ...IMHO

Yes, of course.  The developers for Planescape, who not only have to worry about producing this game, now have to monitor all the different websites out there which list new and up-coming games on their sites, then ensure that nobody else posts the game in the wrong section.  Might as well as ask them to solve world hunger or global peace while they are at it - I\'m guessing it would be just about as possible.

Learn to go to the horse\'s mouth - game review sites & magazines can occasionally get it wrong - check with the website (and forums) of the game in question, and read what is posted there.  Don\'t just go up and whine because the game isn\'t quite what you expected yet - especially about things thatare really quite simply already covered on both.
