The BISM - Full Summary
« on: August 26, 2003, 11:20:10 pm »
Ok...some of you were asking exactly what The BISM was, so I\'m posting this summary so you don\'t have to search around the site.  I stole most of this from one of my earlier posts and edited, so if any of it is contradictory point it out.

Again, this is long and sometimes confusing so ask any questions at all and I will be happy to answer it, you do not even have to read this if you have a specific question in mind

What We Do:
The BISM was founded in February 2002(but was in development since December 2001), it is an organization (NOT a guild, and NOT in competition with ANY of the guilds) thats purpose is to do the jobs given to them by other people from planeshift, including other members, who of course get a discount ;).

By jobs we mean basically anything that can be done in planeshift (and sometimes out of PS)... such as retrieve some special weapon from some dungeon, or we can even give you our best fighters to team up with you in a party to go adventuring (for protection), or take out some guild that is bothering you (or make them change their ways, only applies if we are not in good standing with this guild)

In return the person that we did the job for gives us something of value, the people that helped ACCOMPLISH the job then gets paid depending on how much they helped

Benefits:
These are just some of the benefits you gain for being an active member of the BISM:
1. You are supported in almost anything you choose to do (money/people/whatever). For example, say you need a party to finish a quest...you notify someone of the council and we will see if we can gather a group for you. Unless, of course, it is just to make somebody else mad...we do NOT support that.
2. Everytime you succesfully do a job you will be paid. (Usually around half of what we get...sometimes more)
3. If needed to pull off a job we will sometimes buy equipment for you...depending on what it is you will probably be able to keep it
There are many many more...but you won\'t know what they are til you join(or email me asking specifically what benefit you think you want, this is also still being worked on!).

The people of the BISM:
We need good self-sufficient people, anyone who proves to be too lazy to carry out a job will soon find themselves out of work(as, depending on what faction you join, you will probably work alone)

In The BISM there are good/evil/neutral people working together, if there is a particular thing going on that you do not like, simply do not be a part of it....The Council (and myself) will NEVER make you do ANYTHING that you do not wish to do, you just will not get paid....otherwise you will not lose rank or anything (but you will also not gain ranks until you do something ;) )

If someone fails a job The Council will have a vote to see what will be done about it, and if it is the members fault (he forgets or is too lazy) he will probably not get much money-making opportunities

Factions:
To keep things better organzied the BISM is divided into 7 different \"factions\" ,or parts, these are:

The Council - (not recruiting) Leaders of the BISM, who make all the decisions, they are voted in by the current rest of The Council. the current members are myself, lokee, Keldorn, and Sharaz

The Rogues (Leader is soon to be Sharaz) - Thieves/Assassians/The Darker People

The Merchants - The Merchants are the people that bring the money to the BISM. They excel at thier job, whatever it may be, and give some of the profits to us, and in turn, we give them supplies (so they can make items) and money from our ventures.

The Mercenaries (Leader is lokee) - The Mercenaries are the for-hire group that can be sent into a dungeon or to invade somewhere. They are the only group that CAN NOT have any secret members in it. They are also for-hire to join your party if you are in need of more people in your group.

The Guardians (Leader is Keldorn) - The Guardians protect the other members of the BISM. The can also be hired to protect people outside of the BISM....for a price. They have to be always willing to help those in need and be good at what they do.

The Hunters - (not recruiting) Voted in by The Council, they are the ones who handle things when some council members are away.

The Diplomats - makes peace and alliances with other people/guilds. They make sure that we do not have any enemies....by any means necessary.

Council members usually lead another faction, but sometimes there are special ranks added if the person is useful enough (such as the rank of advisor which is what Sharaz currently is until he decides he wants to lead The Rogues)

Factions will also have their own website and rules, those are decided by the faction leader (not me) currently though, I think they are all still working that out.

Recruiting:
Sooner or later The BISM is going to be limiting the recruiting to people that we KNOW and trust, right now though as long as we think you will fit well with the rest of us, you can join

Guilds:
If you like the idea of The BISM and also leader of the guild (or get your leader to agree with you) contact me and we might be able to work out some sort of deal where we both get benefits.

I think thats it, I\'ve tried to make it as easy to read as possible, which is hard considering its all in one post, i might be changing to correct some mistakes and other things.....

oh well, if you still have trouble understanding you might still want to try the website: http://bism.tk

Hey Kiern, aren\'t you sort of competing with the Mercenaries and Gnome Merchants?  The BISM offers much the same services as they do, except that the BISM offers it all.  8)

Well, technically they are competing with us if you want to put it like that, we were here about a year before they were even around PS.

But hey, there will be competition, always, especially when PS gets further along.  It\'s my job (and the rest of The Council of course) to make sure The BISM comes out on top with superior quality members and efficency, and so far I am extremely please by the quality members we have at the moment :D

They are also both guilds (as far as I can tell) so that sets them apart as it restricts the members so they cannot join others (except for The BISM!! ;) )

As you say though, we do everything, not just restricted to one area, and since the factions are set up, we will be able to function at the same rate and specialty they do...hopefully even better :)

I\'m back, anyway in BISM \"B\"=Business.  The I S and M are unimportant :P
The key to manipulative bargaining is to ask for something twice as big as what you want, then smile and nod when you are talked down to your original wish. You are still young, my apprentice, and have much to learn in the ways of the force. -UtM

hah, no...first I started The BISM off as something pretty different and that is where the name come from, and now that I changed it around 3 months after Feb 2002 what The BISM stands for has no relevance now, so I see no reason you need it.

..And I thought you already knew Abemore?  Or maybe you were gone then...

Yeah, I must have stepped out for coffee.  I guess it doesn\'t matter anymore... but doesn\'t that mean your name is meaningless?  Maybe it\'s time for a new name?  One with meaning perhaps?  Besides, BISM sounds like JISM, which is of course the Jordan Institute for Standards and Metrology, and I know you don\'t want to be associated with those assholes ?(  :P

p.s. Interprise isn\'t a word.

Well, if the rest of The Council bring it up and want to change it, then I will change it...but otherwise I really don\'t see a reason to, it would probably end up confusing people more then it already does
