Help!
« on: July 23, 2003, 05:44:03 pm »
Errors I\'m getting

When I try to run pssetup.exe:
\"pssetup.exe has generted errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program.\"

When I try to run PS in Safe (Slow) mode:
crystalspace.video.software: 8-bit palette mode no longer works in the software renderer!

Updater says that everything is updated.  Any ideas?

Timmywraith, you probably have a driver problem if you can\'t even run the pssetup.exe program !

Anyway, you can use this nice tool made by Jefka to change the resolution and depth settings, along with the keys, mouse sensitivity, FPS display and more...

Just place the vb6fr.dll file into your system directory (/system32 for XP and other NT brands, probably /system for 9x). Place the executable in your Planeshift directory and run it.

not necessarily, i remember having the same problems with PlaneShift on a pc at my work.
Turns out the desktop was set to 24-bit (CS doesn\'t support 24-bit), which prevented pssetup.exe from starting up. Changed it and it worked.

The 8-bit palette mode message he is getting kinda suggests in that direction aswell, but i\'m not sure.

Not saying that that is the case here, this can just aswell be a driver problem.

Mmmm, Keldorn, is PS now an official testbench ? It\'s a bad sign having PS installed at work ;)

You have to be right. That was the 1st message which puzzled me, the pssetup doesn\'t need opengl but it uses directDraw though, so I thought *drivers*. But I\'m not convinced at all.

Like you\'ve pointed out, \"In general, Crystal Space requires a 15, 16, or 32-bit display and will not work with other displays modes\" (from CS documentation). So if the display is 8-bit, none of the PS programs will work. It should be that, thanks !
