203.81.47.74 worx 2 get ingame, but still no web
« on: July 27, 2003, 02:01:50 pm »
Hi thanks for looking  :P

Since the server move, I\'ve had to use
203.81.47.74
to play the game, which is fine.

However, I still can\'t view http://planeshift.fragnetics.com as a website! And of course the IP simply takes you to fragnetics.com .

Is this because I live in New Zealand and DNS registry is still filtering out to little old us? How can I gaze upon the crystal scores again  ;(

 :))

I\'ve got the same problem as you with the IP address when logging on to the game as have many others but I can view the server website O.K.

It may have something to do with the new server DNS propogating through the internet as I\'m in the U.K
I have returned!!

I\'m in the UK and can access both the server and website just fine.

Good luck Havena, Isgrimnur, must be so annoying for you. :(

That\'s strange...

An hour ago I was able to load the page, then I couldn\'t for about 2 minutes, then it went back up, all this while still being connected to PlaneShift...

For some strange reason, I can\'t access planeshift.fragnetics.com, however, I have no problem viewing fragnetics.com. :/

Nevermind, I\'m browsing it as we speak. :)

Browsing the forums when I\'m bored, nothing more.

There have been problems recently with the name propagation on the internet. It comes back and goes again, this morning I could not get to the server page again.

Those who have this trouble again could try this if using windowsXP, but I give no guarantee. The same principle should work fine under other OS.

  • edit the file :
[windows]\\system32\\drivers\\etc\\hosts

(where [windows] stands for your windows installation directory, usually c:\\windows)

  • add the following line at the end of the file :
203.81.47.74    planeshift.fragnetics.com

  • save the file
  • open a command window ( Start -> Run -> type \"cmd\"  OR : windows key + R )
  • in the command window, type these 2 commands :
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
[/list]

I am not sure the last step is necessary, but I had to do it once or twice, so here it is. With me, it worked, but I was probably just lucky  :D

Tell me if this works when you cannot get to the planeshift.fragnetics.com website.

IMPORTANT : if in the future, the IP changes again, don\'t forget to modify the file accordingly !

I *believe* the problem is both fragnetics.com zone\'s DNS servers don\'t agree about what planeshift.fragnetics.com should point to (it is a propagation problem, yes, but between DNS master and slave and will neither resolve by himself).

For the time being, each time we use \'planeshift.fragnetics.com\', we are playing lottery. :P
