almost impossible, but man, it would be excellent.
« on: August 04, 2003, 01:07:03 am »
Ok, here i am again, asking for imposibble stuff to happen :P but anyways, here\'s the utopy:

I was browsing the arcane order\'s webpage, and i tought: wouldn\'t it be cool if, when you start the game, you could acces, officially to a sort of \'school\'? rather than a tutorial, here, the players themselves (the ones who chose the teacher\'s job) would teach newbie players on all kind of aspects they\'ve learned from the games and other players. Buildings could be done for this purpose, holding practice areas and classrooms, where they could learn from basic sworfighting to smithing, and to relate with other players. Each \'school\' could teach their newbies on different ways, so they could count almost as a guild, to hold school tournaments or stuff like that. If you think about it, it\'s not a bad idea (it would take years tho, i guess) as it would expand the interactions between players, and get them in a relaxing atmosphere while they learn the basics of the game, teached by other players themselves rather than cold NPCs. Wouldn\'t it be great if , when you\'re grown, high-level player, you get asked by another guy \"hey did you graduate on the snake school on August \'03?\" Ummm thinking better about it, i guess not. I\'ll leave the thread here for you to think about it a little anyways...
I was cured, all right.

that would take alot of teachers... and new players dont log on in patterns, I\'m afraid - which would reek havoc on any attempt at organizing the school.

I don\'t think your idea is viable in any official setting outside of the guilds themselves, sorry.

optional... a tag could be added to characters who are willing to help new players... but this feature is in alot of MMORPGs... so I wouldn\'t expect it to be in this one... but I don\'t think you can definately count it out either.

Well, I personally would help out any newbie if thats any consulation. Setting up a few buildings with all sorts of simple training stuffs and npcs wouldn\'t be hard, and it could be placed right next to the newbie spawn spot. So people don\'t have to go thru it, but the first thing everyone should see is a big sign that says: new user school!

I always forget about that in charactor thing... altho actually for new users, it might be a litle confusing, they see \"adventures guild\" and think, well, I\'m not ready for that yet, I\'ll just wander around.... So maybe with a note in the cahractor creation, yeah it could work.
And on the staffing side, I\'ve played muds where everyone who helps a newbie gets a litle bonus... I think it was actually done by admins randomly watching in on new charactors, but occasionaly people who help others would get nice favors.... Or maybe inorder to get skills to the highest levels, you have to teach a number of newbies that skill?

Every body who teaches should get a decent XP in what ever they teach - that would help motivate people to help others this way.

The newbie class area could just be an open area where players who wanted to teach would meet up with those who wanted to learn.  That way the class scheduling problem would be solved.

If you are a smith and looking for a little boost in XP, you wonder down to the school and see if anybody wants to learn.  You could invite a group back to the smithy for some more on hands training.

well i dont know if this extent is needed as i know in my guild when a new person joins we take the person under our wing and help em out as much as possible teach em the ways of the game and when we have houses and guild halls those i guess will be our \"schools\" why promote teaching then you get bad teachers when someone teaches because they want to then you get quality teachers

These \"teachers\" you speak of, nadius, helping out n00bs and so, are also used in other mmorpg\'s (like the Arks in Anarchy, if I remember correctly) it is a good thing to have dedicated players turn up once you\'ve logged in for the first time, whom you are free to ask any questions about the game.
In anarchy such people are a great help, but it\'s the devs of anarchy that chose the Arks...

same thingh with the \'helper\' tags in alot of MMOG games... although they don\'t come with any immediate benefits - a person that volunteers to \'help\' and then excels at it or has been helping for a very long time can be rewarded as the devs see fit
