Making a game..

I am a newb when it comes to game creation.. And I would like to know where some good websites are that can give me some inforamation on where/how to get started.  And what to look at.

Well, unless you\'d like to be a do-nothing project leader (No offense, Dameon, Talad, etc. ;) ), you need to know some skill...  Programming, is by far the most important.  However, the days of a lone coder making a good, modern game is gone.  So you\'ll need to identify your needs and recruit team members accordingly.  That is, if you\'re making a text based game, you probably don\'t need a 3D artist...

you could start with Macromedia Flash for simple games, it doesn\'t take a lot of coding but you\'ll know how it works a bit. if you\'re more into the coding part i would recommend QBasic, it\'s very easy and it has a very good help guide.

I\'d recommend the book \"Designing Virtual Worlds\" by Richard Bartle.

Too much work to read it?  Then you have no chance of building a game for years and finishing it so don\'t waste your time starting.

Really easy game engine. Used for RPGs almost exclusively, though with some creativity you can do other stuff. I learned it in a week or two. No real \"coding\" (which can also be a problem; now that I\'m learning to program I can\'t expand the app with my code  X( ). It also comes with some graphics that you could sell commercially (Beenox/Ambrosia say the graphics are part of what you payed for so they\'re yours to use) though you would be more likely to use them as a place-holder for your own graphics. Also has a good user forum on http://www.ambrosiaSW.com where you can get support from anyone there (great group of people!). Finally, it\'s only $50 (US dollars). Good luck on making your game!

Hey hey hey! I may not know how to program, but I layed out the whole Narrowmire world, will be doing the website, 2D Graphics, skinning EVERYTHING..... That wasn\'t a fair comment... ;)

It\'ll take you at least a year to get somewhat good at Programming, dude...

But a good site to START learning is http://www.webmonkey.com. They teach all the basix of HTML, Java, javascript, etc... But Java and HTML are really the only things they teach that really matter. I don\'t remember at the time what else they teach ya...

I came across this a while back.  It\'s both online/solo player and is pretty cute, although I didn\'t spend too much time on it.

You can create your own world.  Basically the game is the same, you just change graphics, icons, spells, monsters, quests, NPC content, etc.   I think this would be a great starter for making your own game without having to know coding, etc.  You just need a whole library of 2d images.

Then you have to have a server to host it on.  This game is NOT 3d, but just 2d.  It is cheesy, but fun for a couple of hours if you\'re bored.
